I just gotta tell someone....
« on: February 03, 2001, 03:57:00 PM »
Hi All,
 I know you don't really care but I don't give a SH*T I'm so happy

I have finally finished putting together my new PC.

KT7A-Raid Mobo
1 Gig Athlon (Heatpipe radiator heatsink/fan)
256mb PC133 SDRAM
Vidiologic Sonic Fury Sound
ATI Radeon 64mb DDR Video
30gb ATA100 disk drive
DVD etc,etc

Well all I can say is It is absolutely bloody amazing, My old PC (PII 400 Voodoo 2, 128 mb PC100 SDRAM) was getting a bit long in the tooth but nothing could have prepared my for AH with FSAA, 32 bit colour 1600/1200 res. I say again bloody amazing. Oh and for anyone contemplating the ATI Radeon 64 go get one. Installed 1st time, AH loaded 1st time.

Like I said you probably don't care But I just love it

(The acid test is online tonight - will it improve my gunnery? I doubt it but at least the flames will look pretty)

For anyone else out there in the UK I can completely recommend http://www.scan.co.uk/today.htm   I got all my bits from them. Next day delivery & some amazing deals. - My mobo,CPU,heatpipe radiator & 128mb of ram cost £286 (+vat).

check them out next time you need something.

Nice one Snafu!!

My PC is coming along. The 1.2 GHz CPU is arriving next week, and I already have the KT7A-RAID board and Prophet II Pro and all the other bits.

I'm hoping it will be a step-up from this P166.

Unfortunately, I can't afford to buy a new monitor just yet - I'm buying my first car next week!

Anyone got the Sony G400 19" monitor?

Online testing completed, Awsome  , Sunsets with everything switched on are breath taking. (So good I completely forgot to check my 6)

I thought nothing could spoil my day then my son asks "Will it still run "Doom" like your old one". (Where did I go wrong) Oh well

What bios version are you using, and did you flash the bios before installing windows etc.?

Boy am I glad to hear that Snafu!

I'm trying to be patient waiting for the same processor and vid card, and I wuz wondering how the Raydon would work. I woulda gone with the GForce, but I need something with TV stuff on it as well, and Raydon seemed to be the answer.

I've been led to believe I will see a difference from my current 300A/16meg tnt2 setup...

Excellent, I am also planning on purchasing the Radeon 64.

When you mention RAID motherboard, are you saying RIAD as in Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks?  If so, I have a few RAIDs in my servers that kick ass.

Thought I'd be clear....a flightsim game and "RAID" kinda go hand in hand      Just trying to figure out what the motherboard is.  You pretty much built what I am planning on assembling this month, except with the Athlon 1.2ghz

LePaul: KT7A-RAID has built in IDE raid, and cannot therefore be compared to the scsi-raid interface that you may have on your servers.

Hi Dowding,
No I didn't flash the Bios. And as to What version am I using I've no idea. I kid you not.   I am a bit of a dumbo when it comes to PC's so this was something of a challenge (An understatement) I just wanted to prove I could do it. (It could have been a very expensive mistake). I spent hours at tomshardware  reading, following links etc and drawing up a short list of what I wanted. The actual build was a real push plug A into socket B affair I know most of the mobo manual parrot fashion now,   and probably because I did not try any tweaks, like overclocking etc is the main reason it all went together so well. I am sure if I had not approached it with such paranoia it would have been a very different story. (The only thing I have done after the initial build is visit the ATI, Videologic sites etc and update my drivers). I've seen people who have probably forgotten more about PC's than I will ever learn have far more problems than me.

Anyway If you can tell me how to find out what version of the BIOS I have I'll find out for you

Cheers Snafu.

This weekend is the big one. I've got everything now - 1.2 GHz CPU, 46 Mb Deskstar and 16 Speed DVD drive came yesterday.

Wish me luck!!!

Hey Dowding,
Best of British mate (Mind you if I can do it anyone can).

Just be ready for the "OMIGOD" experience the 1st time you see a sunset in AH. (The lighting effects on the aircraft are fansastic).

If I may offer one piece of advice......

Don't "tweak" anything just go by the book. At least then you will have a benchmark when you do decide to start messing. (But that's probably just cowardice on my part)

LOL rosco

Cheers pal.   I'm looking forward to that 32 bit mode, and high frame rate in smoke.

Anyway, anything is better than a voodoo 2 equipped P166!

BTW, the latest bios for the KT7 boards (called WW) was released in october. Since the KT7A-RAID came out after this, I think we have the latest bios already.

I've also got a 19" NEC flat screen monitor ordered, so hopefully the whole thing might be a bit tasty.
