Just got my first X52 , Are you guy's
« on: November 30, 2010, 10:41:22 AM »
using the SST software or AH control setup ? I would like to use all my key mappings so I don't have to touch my key board at all . Looked and did a search here for some people's set up but did not really find any thing .

you can assign practically everything on the X52 in AH without using SST at all. :aok

SST is useful if your going to be playing other games with your x52 Flench, as you can create profiles for each different game. If however, like me, AH is the only game you play, its probably better to sort out your controller mapping directly through AH.

Less trouble that way, and less stuff running in the background

I heard once that the SST software could cause some calibration issues, so I uninstalled it when I was having problems with my Joystick.  Not sure if it had any basis or not, but I really don't need it.  Programming in Aces High works fine for me, the dang thing has so many buttons the SST software doesn't really provide anything extra for me.

When I used the X52, I used a combination of both.  I personally love the pinkie trigger 'shift' function and AH doesn't support that on its own.

I also had a lot more 'complex' macros programmed in.. not necessary but did make some things easier.

My advise is if you decide to use SST, make sure that the stuff that you CAN program from within AH gets left unprogrammed in SST.  Basically, if you can do it from within AH then do NOT program it in SST, otherwise you're just asking for issues.

Good luck!

make sure you have a usb self powered hub, this is a must.  most people I know had problems with sst software and uninstalled it.  make sure your deadband is not too big or the stick will be jumping everytime you use it.  I had none and loved my x52, was waiting for it to break down so i could buy a ch stick, but it never did.  So I gave it away, big mistake :cry.

QFT :aok

I use SST, but the only things I have assigned in it are things that are impossible to set up in AH. everything else is assigned in AH.

Havent had any calibration or other problems using SST.

Never needed an external USB hub, I use my PCs builtin USB or sometimes my monitors (which is strictly an external hub I guess.)

I have no deadband set at all, its never spiked in 2 years (mine is the X52 Pro)

i never used the sst software and the pinkie worked fine for me on the x-52 and x52 pro
the only functions i could not use was the mouse, the scroll wheel on the back of the throttle didnt work in the pro for me though.

If you open up the Properties tab for the X-52 and leave it open when you start the game, every button will work.
