Light poles. The effects of wind, wind gusts, harmonics, live loads, dead loads, stuff like that. Long story so I'll give you the short version. My company acquired a program 6 years ago that does the calculations and such and spits the calcs out that you can build to. Only problem was I was the only one here that could figure out how to work it and had the contact to vet my work. So it became my job. I've worked with the same PE for 15 years or so and he's helped me on the more technical aspects when I needed some interpretation of the data. I figured it wouldn't hurt me to take some classes on the side so I didn't have to be wholly dependent on him when I had a question.
Now if I could turn the clock back 30 years I'd have done the military bit and gotten a degree in structural engineering. My buddy has 50 seals and makes bank sitting at home and stamping other peoples work. I think I could handle that between sorties
