I dont understand why you guys think that Russia is any different then the united states nowdays on how we deal with stuff like this, there is no more KGB and we dont just kill anyone who gets in our way, this isnt the cold war, and we arnt communist anymore, we have the FSB now, which is more like the CIA, but they dont go around and make people who oppose the government "disapear"

I laughed at this post, are you living in Russia, or do you just have Russian family?  My grandparent's fled communism and came to the U.S.  I still have family in Russia to this day.  We have not had contact since the families split apart however.

Anyway, Russia has a long track record of killing or making disappear political opponents, journalists have been and still are prime targets.  For a simple list of those done in, here's a good list to start researching: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_journalists_killed_in_Russia

Not only have they done this frequently in the past 20 years, and are still committing it.  Russia is considered one of the most dangerous places for journalists STILL to this day.

I moved to canada from russia and still go back and visit my family every year, and the way people were talking about russia in that thread, made it seem like the russian government is murderous, may I ask how you know who the prim targets are for the russian government? when was the last time you have been to russia? have you ever been to russia or talked to anyone who lives there?

Yes I have been there, yes I have talked to people who live there, yes I have family that still lives there.  Considering the fact they have poisoned and murdered journalists, politicians, and civilians, yes they are murderous.  There are plenty of sources to find the names of those "taken care of."  The link I provided is just such a list.  Also you can read about Russian influence on Ukraine and Georgia in the last 10 years for more examples.
Or not...

Anyway, this was worth a hit by the ban stick.

Heh, yes, it did.
Here's a non journalist killed by the Russian Government:  Alexander Litvinenko.  He was an ex-agent who fled Russia for asylum in the UK.  He died in 2006 of radiation poisonining.  After an investigation by the British government, they had proof of exactly who did it and when.  The name of that man is publically known, do the research yourself.  Deny away  :aok
