CH fighterstick and pro throttle mappings disappearing
« on: November 30, 2010, 07:23:13 PM »
I don't know what is going on, the mapping I am doing for my CH Fighterstick and Pro throttle keep getting wiped.  It doesn't happen every time, but often.  I login, go to my arena of choice, and the controls don't work.  I look at the mapping and they are all unassigned.

Is there a way to reload the assignments if this keeps happening?  I'm getting tired of reprogramming the stick and throttle.

Make sure the files you  are using for your mapping are not read only - otherwise you wont be able to save em. If your running win7, run AH as administrator will fix that. If your on vista, ensure UAC isnt conflicting with you saving your files.

I am using Vista, and it shows that UAC is on.  But I can't see where there are any setting controls.  I can shut it off... I have no idea how it is protecting my account.  I can also run AH as admin.  Should I try both of those ideas?

Run as admin first fella, that *should* sort it out for you.

Its also possible that your USB ports are not actually providing proper power. It is highly recommended that you go with a powered USB hub or this kind of problem could be the least of your worries.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

Yep, CH gear uses the maximum allowed power over the USB bus, so if you happen to have a bus with another device connected or a weak USB hub, then it will constantly reset.

We NEVER connect CH gear to our computers without an externally powered USB hub.

Okay, so weak power to the usb will delete the mapped commands file?  Sheesh.  Anyone got a recommendation on a powered USB hub, and are they hard to install?

Belkin is a good choice, so is Kensington.  You might pay a little extra for either of these two brands but you can be assured that their powered hubs output the standard 5 volts.

Installation is very easy, so easy someone like Skuzzy can do it.  You just plug in the USB cable from the powered hub into your PC, plug in the powered hub's power supply and connect your gear to the powered hub.  That's it.

Okay, so weak power to the usb will delete the mapped commands file?  Sheesh.

It won't delete any files.  I believe what would happen is your computer sees "oh, there's a new controller attached" and assign a new ID to it.  The command files were marked by the software (CH Manager and/or game) to work with "controller ID 001" but now your equipment is "controller ID 002" and there is no mapping file associated with it.

AHHHHH you might be right there.  On occasion when I plug the CHs in it does the New Hardware Found thing.  This makes sense if it is giving it a whole new ID.   Thanks for the help... I think I am on the way.

If your unplugging and plugging the stick alot, that will cause a problem sometimes too.

Be sure to use the same port everytime,if you plan on using a powered hub, same thing goes, use the same port to plug the hub into. Otherwise your apt to have the same problem that Imadot spoke of.

PS: check the sticky for tips/tricks to make vista work better,UAC can be turned off and you can set your login to admin.

FWIW: I use admin to start AH always, seems to work better in Vista that way.

guncrasher, that is not going to solve the problem.  The problem is the USB ID number being changed by Windows which causes the game to pick up the stick as a new device.  Our config files use the ID number as an identifier to know which stick the config file belongs to.

This allows us to support multiple instances of the same stick in the game.  When that ID changes, as it can when a USB bus reset occurs, or when you move from one USB hub/port to another, the game will no longer be able to find the config file as Windows will probably change the ID of the device.
