hopefuly ill be getting back into the game in jan but i have a difficult choice.

do i buy the x-65 or g940?????????

ive got the saitek pedals so thats not a considaration.
prices are similer of ebay so again not a consideration.

the only stick's ive owned fo ah2 are the x-52 and x-52 pro.

reviews are good and bad for both (mostly good).

so im unsure which to get.

advice please.

Well the X65 stick doesn't move.. it measures how much force you're applying to determine 'virtual movement' of the stick.  I haven't used one, but because it's so different you may want to consider trying one before you buy it if at all possible.

The G940 is a Force Feedback stick.  This is what I am currently using.  While the Force Feedback is top-notch the stick itself is still quirky.  The only reason I bought it is because I found a sale on Amazon for $200 shipped brand new.  What do I mean by quirky?  Well for the most part it's a nice piece of hardware, but it suffers from a condition that we call "The Reversal Bug".

Basically, if you move any axis in one direction, and then slowly reverse its direction, it has no effect for a short while and then it 'jumps' electronically to make up for that amount of movement with no change.  The amount of this reversal bug varies between 1.2% of movement to 5% or more depending on the axis.  This makes it difficult to 'fine tune' your aim, throttle setting, trims, etc.

The good news is that after many months and two software updates that were 'supposed' to fix the problem and didn't, on the Logitech message boards they've finally devoted an engineer to work with us to help develop a fix, and they have given us confirmation that this reversal bug CAN be fixed with a Firmware update, and are working on a Beta Firmware as a stop-gap until an official release can be made... so hopefully this will all finally be a non-issue in the very near future.

This "reversal" bug is like this.  Lets say full 'up' is ZERO and full 'down' is 100.  As you move the stick from up to down you'd see 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16 and then at this point you decide to reverse the direction.  It would do this:  16,16,16,16,12,11,10,9 and if you reverse the direction again you'd see 9,9,9,9,14,15,16.  Basically, you're forced to 'overcompensate' any time you need to change the direction of any axis.

But.. like I said otherwise it's an AWESOME stick.  I don't regret my purchase at all and hopefully this one issue will soon be a thing of the past.

Well I have had my G940 for about a week now and I am happy with it, but I did buy it at a 45% off Logitech sale. I guess if it was a 45% off Saitek sale I would have got that one instead. Even with the discount it is still a lot to pay for a hobby accessory so I also think you would have to look hard to find someone who says they spent so much on a heap of #@%%**&! Best advice was from Tigger, try to use them both before you buy. PS. The FF for me was not at all what I imagined because I have a butt kicker and thought it would be another rumble type accessory. Instead I was most impressed to see how it inserted pressure when I pull G's with it and so on. It is a much better set up than I am a pilot!

Have owned 2 G940's for a year.  I bought one and my wife bought me the other one because she did not know I had already ordered it. :x  I love it. Nice feel and the Force Feedback makes the game.  The rudder pedals make a difference to after you get use to them.  Has it made me a better pilot?  Yes.  Has it improved my marksmanship? yes, but not much.  Natural disability called marksmanship challenged.  But after having FFB I would not change.

If you have pedals already get the CH combat stick.  Around 80 quid. 

If you need extra buttons source yourself a separate throttle.

thanks guys. i did think of getting ch stuff but thought the newer hotas would be "better" so to speak. so another question for myself is:old proven ch products or new not proven but so far good g940.

FF is a welcome return havent seen that since my ms ff2 years ago :)

You will.  It's one of those things that once seen, can never be unseen.  It's like a thorn in your thumb once you notice it.

I also noticed it makes it difficult to keep a plane under 60FT without using autopilot.

The good news is we're literally days away from seeing a fix.
