Additions to the Cv fleet
« on: December 01, 2010, 06:07:14 PM »

Since hitting the ords and stuff at ports is more times then not pointless How about strat targets for the CV groups

several Troop transports.  Sink em and you cant launch LTVs
Several Supply ships. Sink them and planes carry no bombs

are you specifying that the bases have these 'strats'? or the fleets themselves have other boats?

The bases already have these strats. But dsestroying these strats at the port doesnt do anything that effects the fleet.
I'm suggesting that the fleets themselves have these strats that work the same way as base strats do. After all. All a fleet is. Is a floating, moving base.

Cool idea about the troops, but the ord/fuel was stored inside the CV until it required resupply.

ok i see what your getting at, but during the war, you coulnt just take out ords or troops, you would have to take out everything, or cause a lot of damage.

Another idea is that say after 2000ibs into the carrier, the ords go, and after 3500 the troops go?

Oh yea ya could
On 2-3 March, 1943, Australian planes participated in the Battle of the Bismarck Sea. Eight Japanese troop transports and four destroyers were sunk
The Japanese decided after the loss of Guadacanal to reinforce New Guinea with troops from China and Japan and making a stand there. Allied aircraft spotted and attacked one of the troop convoys in the Bismarck Sea (March 1943). The United States Fifth Air Force and the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) attacked the convoy from Rabaul carrying troops to Lae. Most of the troop transports were sunk. Japanese losses were severe

Wreck of Kinugawa Maru

The Kinugawa Maru was a transport ship in service with the Imperial Japanese Navy as a transport during the Second World War, and had been heavily active in the supply runs known as the 'Tokyo Express' during the opening stages of the Guadalcanal Campaign.

One such run saw the Kinugawa Maru join up with a convoy of eleven other cargo ships and their escorts at New Georgia Island, from where they proceeded towards Guadalcanal on November 13th, 1942. As they crossed the open ocean towards the Southern Solomon Islands, the Kinugawa Maru and her convoy were sighted by an American recon plane on the morning of November 14th, which radioed their course and heading to the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise. The convoy came under air attack in the early afternoon on the 14th, and while the Kinugawa Maru avoided any damage in the action, seven of the cargo ships in the convoy were sunk, and another two so heavily damaged they were forced to withdraw from the mission. Now steaming with the remaining four cargo ships and a small escort of Destroyers, the crew onboard the Kinugawa Maru prepared to unload their cargo of over a thousand troops and supplies onto Guadalcanal during the coming night.

Dawn on the 15th of November found the Kinugawa Maru and her three counterparts just offshore of Guadalcanal, still offloading troops and supplies. US Marine shore batteries opened fire on the stationary transports, and quickly had two of the four ablaze and under heavy, accurate fire. Airstrikes were called in from Henderson Field and the Destroyer USS Meade, on patrol at the time, swept in from Ironbottom Sound and raked the Japanese Maru's with 5-inch shellfire. By noon, the attacks were joined by aircraft from the USS Enterprise which had all four transports heavily damaged, on fire and sinking. The Captain of the Kinugawa Maru elected to beach his ship with the remaining engine power she had before her boiler room flooded, and the ship was run ashore here at approximately 13:00hrs on November 15, 1942.

Just like any base IRL Carriers cant carry o board an unlimited supply of ordenence. They had to Depend on the support ships for that

So you just want to add more ships to the fleet overall?

Ords and troops are usually inside the CV.

Ordnance for the on-board fighters and bombers, yes. Troops...none except for a small Marine detachment
for guard purposes.

wouldnt the troops be stationed on other ships such as cruisers and destroyers if there were no troop ships?
