yeah i know this wont sit well..but how many times have you heard some whining noob that talks too much and has to tell you every little thing hes doing...or ask a zillion questions....only to be squelched or told the answer is ALT+ F4.......and then he does his two weeks and is gone forever?   maybe 2 weekers after choosing a country are put into a squad automatically....at random on the side they pick.with the hope that the squadies will tell him on day one to be quiet, and maybe give him some pointers.at the end of2 weeks he can be released by the squad and either be gone forever or stay and pay. this would keep more free noobs and turn them into paying players and expand squads.the hope for squads would be by teaching the new guy, they get another squadie that in the future they can rely on. i know this is probably nothing new,but i see alot of OLD dogs here have NO patience for noobs.maybe thats a contributing factor in the lower numbers of players???

I think if (and that's a big if) this were considered for implementation the squads would have to volunteer for this 'privilege'.  Lots of squads out there are very tight and / or not exactly kid friendly with their comms.  Cant force those guys to button up because they had the company of someone they didn't ask for to join them.

last 3 weeks I've been playing lots of people have been very accomodating to new players.  most alt f4 jokes are just played on existing members and its a haha thing.  kindda like the sheep jokes.

think the economy was the main contributing factor to lower number of players.  lots of old timers are still out of a job, but they'll be back.

Im trying to make a fully efficient and deadly team-based fighting force with the 20th... if i start being forced to add two weekers to my squad this might hinder it. I'll gladly help new players out if they need it but im not hindering what im trying to do with my squaddies (not to mention some people might get annoyed my newbs).

PS: we're kid friendly :D just look at a few of our members. as long as theyre MATURE enough theyre worth keeping. i know some kids dicho that can out fly many people in the game. Why miss out on having them as crew just because they are between the ages of 13-18?

Actually I'm kid friendly and I'll help anyone I can anytime I can.  I just don't run into them as much as I used to.  When I first came back I floundered around the TA for a few weeks but only ran into a few.  And absolutely no doubt some of these young guys can master this game faster than the older guys.  Daddogs son used to fly quite a bit and he was scary good.

Got to say no to this.  Forcing someone into a squadron that the members of that squadron don't know and may not want to have this individual for them is not a good thing.

Why don't we just play the game with the hope that mature adults will behave in a mature manner?

Maybe a "new cadet" arena? Maybe added as a section to the TA? Just thinking out loud here.

2weeker comes in and is only able to go to the TA arena until a trainer clears him/her for other arenas or after he subscribes.

The cadet could have his innocent "how do I start engine?" questions answered and would most likely get a better first impression of the community.

Maybe there could even be  an automatic checklist to go through.
Kind of like a tutorial of the keyboard and controls.
After passing the tutorial the "cadet" could be cleared for the TA and get basic combat maneuvers instruction.
When the cadet is cleared for combat duty he/she can move on to other arenas.
The cadet would also know where to find help in the future.

It would not have to be an extensive tutorial, just cover the very basic commands and controls to get started.
I don't have any idea what it would take to program a tutorial in that fashion but it might be beneficial.

Again just thinking out loud and only a suggestion.
In WWII they trained the pilots before sending them out to fight. Well mostly anyway.

like me lol SQUEEEK!!! seriously though your idea is nice and worth thinking about, but im sure most squads wouldnt want some random noob just appear in the squad one day. maybe there though there should be a squad specificly made for noobs with some old timers as CO and XO and all that to help people. our another idea is to have someone make tutorial videos on how to be successful in aceshigh like ACMs to dive bombing to calibrating bomb sights, and alot of other things. those i think would help 2 weekers.

I watched a very patient squaddie, Krusty (?!?!!), try to answer a two-weeker's incessant questions one night.  The response to the answers was always, "I know what I'm doing."

This begs the question, what was he spamming for in the first place?

Two weekers like this, more than likely, are not going to be paying for a sub anyway.  They have no income.

We have also had a recent episode where a long time squeeker, who has been told ad nauseum to tone it back gave a hearty "I'm leaving", or did he just change his handle?

At any rate, you just can't get through to some people.  They have their own agenda or lack in social skills because they spend all their time behind a computer screen.

Alt + F4 has it's uses.

You intent is laudable.   :salute  May I suggest a possible alternative approach?

How about an official HTC  Newbie squad “AHBabySeals”.  New players by default (unless opt out) are inserted in this squad and Trainers and other volunteers, split up nights to server as squad officers and chaperone the pups in the various arenas.  They can ask all their questions on squad vox/text.  They can be helped by trainers and each other.  They are indoctrinated in to the game and HTC has a chance to put an initial formative stamp on their behaviour at the point they enter the game.  After 3 months they “graduate” from the squad.

Any seal pup that graduates with honour from this squad would be good material to be recruited by other player squads.  You at least know they’ve mastered the basic skills and have at least controlled their behaviour for 3 months else the trainers would have booted them.
