What I learned today...
« on: December 02, 2010, 06:16:15 PM »
I learned today, in Physics, that AC/DC was named after a sewing machine. Because the AC(Alternating Current)/DC(Direct Current) was created within a Sewing Machine. That Sewing machine was one of the first sewing machines that had a battery and was chargeable. The Leader of the group, thought it was cool, so he named his rock band after the Sewing machine.

So AC/DC doesn't stand for some super "cool rocked out" name.

I heard somewhere that after they had named themselves someone on a tour somewhere said that AC/DC was another term for a person who is bisexual.

I was always told that AC/DC got their name by the phrase: After Christ Devil Comes.

That's probably the most accurate.

Not to worry Cap. I'm taking a basic college math class at the local college and my 8th grade son actually knows some of this stuff better then I do. I'd say the kids are alot sharper now then when we went to school.  :old:

coolness.........

i just worried about that, because.....well........while it is interesting, there are many many more important things to be teaching our kids.

like what my neice is learning....spanish at the ripe old age of 10. and that actually agitates me too. my brother asked why they were making her take it, and they said because there are non-english speaking students that she(and the other kids) need to communicate with.

Right idea, wrong reason.  Having a second language (regardless of which one it may be) at or near fluency is a plus in almost any career path, and allows the language side of your brain to develop differently.  Young minds pick up new languages much more easily than old ones.  As I said though, that justification is a bunch of crap.

Learning another language is really essential to understanding the construction of English.
