after about an hour to an hour and a half my old head starts throbbing.  I've learned when my right eye starts twitching it's time to log.

How far along are ya?  I still have to do baseboards, trim, and paint the video wall.  Then it's off to the hallway.  After everything is painted I have to rip out the carpet and decide if I want to do stained concrete, wood, or tile.  Times like these I could use a truly intelligent woman to make these decisions.

I've never been called intelligent but I have been compared to a " female" once or twice. So go with the stained concrete.

Combination tile and wood here. Stained concrete is cool but if you've already done your walls... It might be a pain. Slash is not being completely truthful. He's only been compared to an ugly female.

Ya Shif.. lots of things I can do.. just trying to decide.  Gotta finish the LR first.  Roomie wants to buy a projection system with surround sound so I made the North wall all white.  Might even hook up and die life size some night

Stained concrete is great if you start out pouring with the intention of staining.  Carpet tack strips are nailed into the concrete, leaving holes.  When patched, the stain really stands out at the patches. 

Just a heads up based on experience   I love a nice stained concrete floor, but consider floating a thin skin over it so you have a good foundation.

yep I've been looking at that.  I'd like to do it in the kitchen, gym (formal dining room) living room, and halls.  Carpet the bedrooms. 

If I decide to stay here on a long term basis I'd probably do my room as well.  Floor dirty?  No problem.. fire up the leaf blower

IVe never seen a stained concrete floor as the final finish for the interior of a home....Are you talking about using the concrete as the finished floor in say a LR or a DR?

I'm in and out of homes on a daily basis ( Property Insurance adjuster ) and in my 15+ yrs doing it, I have never seen this. Is it a regional thing?

I have seen it alot outside, stained / stamped concrete  but never inside. Would love to see some pics!

It seems to be big everywhere. A guy I work with is building a new house. They cut patterns in the slab and he had it acid stained. I don't have pics of his but some examples of stained concrete can be found here.

It's becoming more and more an indoor thing





I was channel surfing one day and saw a home improvement show where they were also making countertops out of it.  Now that would be seriously cool.  I like the dark earthy hues but I've been warned that making a home too 'masculine' can hurt it's resale value.  So I have to be careful about color selections and so on.  Doing the interior walls in a warm light tan color called 'relaxed khaki' and I think floors like the above would really set it off and give the interior a classier look.  Again I just have to decide if I plan to stay here 10+ years or so to recoup my investment.  Fortunately my room mate does this type of work for a living so, when I have a project planned, he shows me what to do, watches for a bit, and goes on his merry way.  He's a huge help on the detail work and has access to the tools that I don't.  He did say that the stained concrete I was on my own though  

Looking at pic 2.. that fireplace could use some rework in my opinion.

Thats just gorgeous!!!  I would imagine that these are popular in warmer weather climates. Like i said, ive never seen anything like it and i have probably been in 10,000+ homes in the SE Pennsylvania region and not one of these type of floors. Its almost like Faux finishing the concrete.

I have a stamped concrete/ finished patio, thats made to look like slate, but nothing on the order of those pics.

This now has me thinking...................da mn!

What I like about the floors is they wear well and with the pool wet feet *shrug* big deal grab a towel.  Cleaning consists of a broom and a regular mopping and, since I'm a big time dog lover, shedding isn't that much of a problem.  Toss down some area rugs for sound suppression and viola a nice clean house.

In colder climates like KY (-20 on a really bad day), tile is a no-no. Us hicks prefer carpet, it's warmer.
