Dx8 + New voodoo drivers =..........
« on: November 22, 2000, 09:58:00 AM »
Today i Downloaded the new DirectX8 and the new drivers for my Voodoo3 3000, and when i went to AH i wasnt expecting anything but maby a 2 or 3 fps boost, but insted WOW! the colors are MUCH ritcher, everything looks much more crisp and brilliant, if i didnt know better i would say i was looking at 32bit color.  Anyone else have any GOOD results from the new DX

That's very interesting.

I wonder if Direct X 8 now provides native support for the Voodoo 3's weird "22 bit" color option.  It's the only thing I can think of that would give you such a nice little boost.  I can't remember how it works, but I'm thinking it was only available in Glide before, and maybe now it automatically works in DirectX.

Wobble I'm curious as to which driver version ur using?  I thought the new drivers were for 4 and 5 series but I know that some ppl use them for the 3 series with success.

For everyone else...I downloaded DX8 and so far so good on running on my system.  The colors do seem more bold to me (may be subjective) but at least my frame rate did increase a couple of frames.

Geez Wingnut, you're running a K6-2 350mhz? I'll make sure to be nice and not make any smoke around you   I tried to fly with my old K6-2 350 back in beta, but fps was annoyingly low   Anyone have any problems with DX8? I installed one of the later beta versions of it a few months back, and my fps actually dropped by 15-20. Hate to do another format....is the improvement worth the risk?

I really don't have that big of a problem Raub.  Now I don't get those high fps like others but the lowest I get is about 11 in smoke which is still quite playable.

The only problem i have with low fps is in gunner positions..cause my movement seems lax of course.

Tell me more about V3 users using the v4 and 5 drivers, does that actually work?

I don't know a great deal at all about it.  But I've seen several post (on their board, etc) that say ppl mix match the files which I'm not willing to try..hehe.
