It seems like I'm the only one who even notices it here, with the exception of a couple other WW2 history geeks like myself that im acquainted with.

In my dual credit history class last year on september 1st (70 year mark of ww2 starting) I was the only one who knew the day had any significance........

So yes, it makes me sad. It makes me more sad that people dont remember important days like this though.

There are certain events that are really important, but you can't expect people to remember the date of every single important event of WWII, or of every war for a matter of fact.  Don't get upset if your classmates can't date the start of WWII.  Without looking it up, can you tell me the start date of The Revolutionary War, the Civil War, WWI, Vietnam, Korea, First Gulf, Afghanistan, Iraq?  If you want, use the opportunity to educate and give perspective, but don't get on a high horse because you know the date.

I don't think there is a reason to be depressed on December 7th.  To me, it's a reminder of the service men and women of WWII.  The glass is half full.

Folks, play nice.

July 28 1914 for ww1, June 25th 1950 for korea and April 19th 1775 for revolutionary war are the only ones I know.

You've made your point, good sir.

My Great Grandfather's twin brother was on the Arizona. Managed to jump into the ocean in time before he was killed. Received a Purple Heart as a destroyer gunner.

My Grandfather's friend was a top turret gunner on a B-17G of the 306th Bomb Group. He went to Berlin twice, said the flak was so thick, you could

walk on it. My Mom's friend was a radioman aboard the destroyer USS Tucker, stationed at Pearl Harbor during the attack. He helped his friend

   man an anti-aircraft gun.

Holiday? Far from a Holiday. A Holiday is celebrated. We don't celebrate a day which we were attacked.
We have solemn ceremonies on Dec.7. Not joyous celebrations, which we have on a "Holiday"

We don't live in a society that values history. Just the way it is. "Ancient" for most is something before the 70s. Its painful to realize how few know which war involved Hitler and which one the Kaiser.

I have a coworker who has a doctorate, but knew nothing about Midway.
