Bear Season in NJ
« on: December 06, 2010, 06:56:36 AM »
Well, today Black Bear Season starts in NJ. We have a current population of about 3500. State wants to take 300-400 down.
We haven't had a hunt in 5 years. Anyone going?

they keep talking about it on 101.5. apparently the animal rights activists seem to think this is wrong.

They thought the same about bringing in sharpshooters to Valley Forge park to cull the deer herd.

Their "solution" was to introduce coyotes into the park to manage the deer population...  :O

MOST HUNTERS i know will donate the meat, if they're not going to eat it themselves. it never really gets wasted by responsible hunters.

only things keeping me from hunting, is that A) i don't have the stomach to gut the animal after i kill it, B) i friggin HATE the cold weather, and C) i don't view sitting in a tree waiting for something to come by, or come to a spot i've baited to be hunting. oh yea....D) i ain't gettin up at 3am to go sit in that tree in the cold weather that i hate.

What he said.   :aok

The problem is when the bear population gets too large, they start wandering farther from their "normal" territory for food, etc.  Once they lose their fear of humans, it can become a dangerous situation, to say the least.

I know the meat from the Valley Forge deer shoot gets donated and a lot of it goes to feed local homeless.

 :rofl :rofl

I understand that we tried to replace the Bearskins with synthetics but the result was horrible when it was humid or raining. Apparently they are made to order and issued brand new, they continue to grow for some weeks after issue and need to be trimmed.

Note the wonderful SA-80 (L-85a2) bayonets manufactured from melted down corned beef cans. Marvel at how they are designed to fit over the flash eliminator, so that after 30 rounds rapid it's impossible to remove them without asbestos gloves :huh

I'm sure the animal rights groups can step forward and capture the bears and move them to other states where the population is low. Wonder if any would step up to the plate.
