SBLIVE panel ?
« on: April 11, 2001, 02:10:00 PM »
I read Skuzzy's report of the pain to delete all of this, I suspect its my problem.  Comes down to this: If I keep it enabled, I get lock ups, if I disable it, the lock ups 'appear' to subside.

Can I start from scratch by basically uninstalling all software related to it, then physically remove the card, reboot, then shut down, re-install the card, and just add drivers?

The best way to get around all SBLive issues (which will probably solve 99% of the problems with a computer system) is to use the basic drivers from the Creative Live website and not even bother with loading the software from the CD.
This eliminates that god awful panel they install.  I could go tinto a rather lengthy description of all the DLL's that either get hooked or replaced by the SBLive software, but it would be rather boring reading.
Suffice it to say, that panel hooks/replaces things in the OS that should not be touched by an application.
Getting rid if it is not very easy either.  I made the error of allowing this garbage to get installed and it took me 3 days of work, with a lot of hand copying of DLL's and EXE files, plus registry work to clean it all out.
Cratinve Labs is out of control.

I'm not sure Ripsnort. I had no problems with most of the SBlive software, except one part of it which crashed 2/2 times so it was removed. It was so briefly on my machine that I can't remember the name of it.

It's a great card, just a shame the software seems to be so buggy.

Yep, the first day I put the SB Live! value into my system was the only time I left their software enabled.  I just disabled mine through MS config, since the drivers were working fine etc.

Sounds like a good plan Ripsnort.

Creative is EVIL.

Am about to start building my next computer.

This one has the SB Live but I disabled the panel in msconfig.

What would be a good non-Creative card for the next computer?

Just turned my SBLive into Skeet, Using the Hercules Game Theater XP sound card. Had to reformat drive and reload WINME, as Creative sticks 8,000,000 drivers and INI files all over the place. XP is one bad son of a gun, brings AH back to life and plays MP-3 files like you never heard before.

P.S. SBLive also sucks up massive amounts of PCI speed even when it aint running.

Actually, I think I did it in the system config utility.

Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information.

Apparently I already got rid of it. There is no reference to it in the start up config. Thanks anyway.

What He said!

No need to delete or risk further system disruptions, just disable the loading at start up.
