OK, CH pro throttle and Win2K question
« on: December 18, 2001, 10:34:00 PM »
Here is my dilema,  I use win2K (for several months now) and have CH products gear, to include Pro throttle, Pro pedals, and Janes Combat stick. All of it analog.  It has worked fine from my initialm win2K install. I had been using the same setup for a couple of years under win98 with no problems at all. I have to use speedkeys to programm all the functions within the throttle and joystick. Speedkeys is a macro mased thing that allows you to build a template and save into your throttle.

Recently I sat down after a few days of not using my computer to find that my throttle doesnt work. Windows does see my joystick and my pedals, however none of the functions I had loaded in the stick or throttle now work. I tried launching speedkeys to load the template back in the throttle and the stick but speedkeys says it cannot find my joystick (or any of my gear). If it cant get beyond that step, it will not let me proceed.  So I go off to CH products website and FAQ's. Lo and behold, they have a blurp on their page that says that the pro throttle will not work with win2K. What gives, it worked great from August till last Saturday with win2k?  Is it possible that the template stored within the throttle lasted for 5 months then crapola'd on me...for whatever reason? I need help, I am lost without my pro throttle.

anyone seen this and can give guidance?

I had the same setup you did. I dual booted between Win98 (to use Speedkeys and program my gear) and Win2000. Since then I've gotten rid of Win98. I now have all USB gear, and it's all good in Win2000, and you don't need speedkeys, or that bogus 'control manager' program that comes with CH gear. You can set all your stick inputs via the menus within AH. Use Stick Mapping, not Key mapping. I'm not sure if you can do that with serial gear or not...

Cheezhead, how difficult is it to setup your joystick through "stick mapping" in AH? I have XP and my old analog CH stuff has to go. I tried using a USB saitek X45 but I am just not enjoyig it. My only draw back is that CH USB stuff is soooo freakinging expensive. I am having problems justifying to myself to spending that much money on something I dont do that often.

Also since pedals do not need to be programed do any of you guys think i would run into any trouble if I used a USB stick but analog CH pedals?

I would really really really hate to have to do a dual boot.

There shouldn't be any problems using a mix of analog/usb sticks. Tho the only experience i have with it is when I had my usb ch pedals and an old analog sidewinder.

CH just released their manager software for 2k/xp, so everything usb should be fully programmable now.

I had the same problem with my CH pedals.. windows wouldnt see it. But AH did and they work a-ok. Its detected now as Human Interface Device, but what the heck, it works. i wont tinker with it  :)
