Author Topic: Need help with a TM F-16 TQS. (Read 481 times)

Ok here is the setup. As of right now the thing is unresponsive and will not register a command function going through it. It was going intermittent this afternoon and yesterday but I did not think anything about it.

I have a F-16 FLCS with TQS and RCS. The FLCS and RCS work fine but the TQS will not accept commands. It will show as a connected part of the setup in Windows ME under my Game Controllers. However it will not allow me to set it up for anything and does not respond within the Windows configuration program.

The FLCS and RCS show connected and they respond to inputs in games and in the configuration screens. The TQS worked earlier today but was intermittent right before I logged off this afternoon.

Another stupid idea ... but its worth a try. It has saved me a few times.

Use a Tuner Cleaner & Lubricant Spray on all you connections.

I have a F-16 FLCS/TQS/RCS ... my problem was where the keyboard pluged in. A squirt here a squirt their and every thing works now

I opened it up last night after posting. The damage seems to be a little more complicated than that. Off the sensor on the throttle I have two broken wires along with a broken tensioner arm and tension wheel (little wheel on the back) that tightens the feel of it up. I am not sure how that happened. Unless my 5 year old did something to it. It had been set to what I wanted for at least two years with no tinkering. Now I guess I have to tinker with the damn thing again.

Tensioner was not broken it was the piece that actually held the potentiometer (pot) in place. This is what caused the pot to move out of place and snap two of the three wires that allow it to function.

Once I put Krazy Glue on it and let it sit for a while I resoldered the wires into place and now I am back up in AH easily.

I had to recalibrate it with AH's calibration though before it would allow me to use the throttle in game.

FYI, the tensioner wheel is pretty useless. (I'm sure ya noticed

) You'll get more control over the tension of the throttle by tightening or loosening the four screws in the base closest to the shaft of the throttle. I've always sprayed a bit of teflon lube on the shaft mounts inside the throttle to keep the action smooth <insert joke here>, then then tighened to my preference.

Yeah SOB after re-working it tonight I noticed that the throttle was more responsive to movement. It also does not seem to spike as much once I soldered the wires back in place. I made sure to collect all the stray wires that seemed to be hanging out the side and twist them together and pushed them through the hole before soldering in place.
