New Skin Idea

I posted this in the Custom Sounds and Skins forum and at least one person liked it, so I figure I'd post it here and see what you guys think.

Every player should be able to download and use the 15 skins per plane that they want.  That way, they are able to see everyone else who uses that skin, and the skins they don't have downloaded will be seen as the default skin.  This eliminates a need for a skin rotation and will allow COs to inform their squaddies what skins to download, etc.  I think of it as a skin "bank."  Every skin that is made, it goes to the "Download" page, then the idividual chooses their skins.  The only change there would need to be, I think, is the naming of the skins (instead of P38G_1 it would need to be the FG/FS and the "name" of the aircraft [i.e. "Corky Jr.]).  This would also enable skinners to skin more skins for the same aircraft and add them to the "bank."  (Lord knows there's only 100 requests for P-51 skins, etc...)

I don't know how the skins work, but would someone else have to have that skin in order to see it?  So if you get a skin no one else has, only you can see it, everyone else sees default?

i think we are thinking in the right direction,just not sure on how the skinning process works...unless its a deer

Currrently, if you don't have a certain skin that another player has, you see the default skin.  This would still apply in my theory.

i think what your saying is something we already have in the game. You can adjust them to your standards in the graphic details in options on your clipboard. If im wrong plz correct me.

He's saying I d/l skin A, B, and C.  You have skin C, D, and E.

If I fly with skin C, you can see my skin C because you have it on your comp.  If I fly with skin A, you don't have it and see the default only.

+1 but why would they need 15 skins per plane?  5 should be enough and you can always go back and pick new ones.

I dunno... I'm not dismissing the idea, as it has merit... there's just some things I don't like about this "pick your own path" style of skin "fix".

For instance, I don't just pick a skin for ME, I pick a skin in the hopes that others will see it too. By doing it this way, that's no longer garunteed.
Also, since other people will be picking skins I won't have, it'll actually increase the number of planes I see that look no different than default. In other words, it strikes me that by going this route, yes, you can choose what YOU see for the plane YOU fly, but chances are, other people won't see it, and you'll see a lot more default skins and less variety than there is now..

Just MHO.

When I go to the runway I actually do a pre-flight walkaround just to check out the skin.   Lots of amazing work out there.

I hadn't thought about the increased number of times I'd see the default skins.   I'd much rather see a custom skin than most default skins.
