Fuel Loadout Options
« on: December 08, 2010, 05:18:25 AM »
Searched but couldn't find this wish... and I'm surprised.

I'd like to see more control over fuel loadout in the preflight phase. To start, how about more gradients than just 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. There are some planes where 25% is not enough, yet 50% is too much. Being able to enter fuel in gallons or % would be very helpful. A secondary feature would allow pilots to choose WHERE to place the fuel (keeping within the bounds of realism and practicality). If you're one of those folks who burns wing tanks first, wouldn't you like to see the option to skip that fuel altogether?

Feedback appreciated. <S>

You are really wanting to thread the needle with this wish, imo.  First off, my opinion is that if you cant get done what you want done with the fuel options were already have then you wont be happy with another 3-4 choices of fuel amounts.  Secondly, if you are in a spot in which life or death depends on your tanks being %50 or %25 full, you should have never allowed yourself to be in that position in the first place.   ;)   Thirdly, I've read through multiple sets flight logs from WWII pilots, including my own grandfather (B24D pilot, PTO), and in no place did I find any of the multitudes of aircraft he flew did he take off with less than %100.  I've not yet read where SOP was not to have tanks %100 full at takeoff regardless of the aircraft or mission being flown.  It is a luxury for us to be able to choose in AH (and gamey if ya ask some of us  ;)  ).  Lastly, most aircraft rotate what tank burs off when.  There are reasons for that, an oddball center of gravity on an aircraft can make it unstable.
