Australia
« on: December 09, 2010, 01:12:57 PM »
Heres the story,

i just EAS'ed from the USMC, i have a friend who is about to EAS. Whenever we were miserble etc lol in daily grunt life or in iraq etc...We always had a thing about how we were going to move to Australia and enjoy paradise and beautiful woman, drinks on the beach etc. Well turns out we wana make it a reality now. Just wondering if anyone has any advice or tips on how to make it a smoother process.

As far as work etc, i was told by the VA i can use my GI Bill over there, so id like to go to school. Also, i had done some traing with the Australian army and a warrent officer told me they have a deal where you can join the Australian army and get your citizenship, much like the US has.

Thanks for any help or advice etc.

If you think Australia is all about that, then you're going to find out the hard way that you're dead wrong.

Granted I've never been to Australia, but there is no country in the world that could be considered 'paradise'... at least unless you have a TON of money.

I would definitely have to advise that you take an extended visit (month or more) and get a feel as to what life is like over there before you decide to move.

I'm not saying that it's bad there.. I'd actually love to visit sometime... I'm just saying that I doubt it is the paradise that you are thinking.  If you want beaches and beautiful women it may be easier for you to move to the west coast or Florida than to go through the hassles of relocating across the world.

lol no no no, im fully aware its not going to be "paradise." The paradise thing was just like showing how we thought about it to get us through the hard times. Honestly, its more for adventure, change of pace...some excitement etc.

Good luck!

If you joined the Australian Army you might find yourself back in Iraq only with worse food and lower pay. Maybe you should think about the Australian Navy because they have Hydrographic vessels based in Cairns which is about as close to your description of Paradise as you can get. Sail up and down the Barrier reef charting and identifying shipping hazards. We have a friend who did that for years before she recently got re assigned to Sydney.

Doesn't Australia also have some pretty restrictive firearm laws?

Everyone knows the aussie accent is like a lobotomized cockney - it comes from your criminal genes.

They are not as pretty as you may think........

In fact, many beautiful women in Brisbane or Sydney are usually just tourists.....  So work on your accent and pretend you're a local!!!  That is your in!!!
