Planes of Fame

I recently went up north and took my daughter to the Grand Canyon. On our way back, I found an Air Museum out in the middle of nowhere. It was a very interesting place. My only dislike was the fact that they did not have too many signs identifying what each aircraft was and the history behind it.. I thought that I would share these photos with the Aces High community...

My future son in law didn't understand what my fascination is with WWII aviation and history. He and my daughter didn't really want to stop there, but since I was driving they had no choice. They actually found that history is really interesting and they enjoyed being there to see a few of the aircraft that made history..



I still do not know what this is.. My Future Son in Law doesnt either.


We All Know What this is. Working 109 G-10  with oil leak..

It was a cool place to visit.. So if your ever visiting the Grand Canyon stop by the Planes Of Fame Museum...

Looks like a Ferret armoured car - possibly a Mk 2. Post WW2.

Yep, British Ferret armored car.  Post WWII (served in Korea, I believe), as WWII wartime model didn't have the turret, just a mount for the STEN gun.

Definately Daimler Ferret, lie down to drive them with the most gigantic steering wheel ever seen.


about 100 bhp engine in a 4 tonne vehicle, would do 60mph eventually but good fun to drive, especially in emergency gear, which sounded like you were going mach 3 but really wouldn't exceed 9mph. Fun for upsetting RMP's in camp :lol

That's interesting. Part of the collection is in Chino California and part of it in BFE AZ.

That Val looks pretty good for actually being a Vultee bt-15.

The Pima air museum here in Tucson is huge but they don't have a 109

What town was this close by?  I was at the Grand Canyon two summers ago.

It'd be great to have a P-38 cockpit like that at your house. Maybe figure out how to configure it with the computer to fly sims. The ultimate simpit.

Oak, I went up there two years ago and didn't remember seeing this museum. Maybe it is new.. I do not know the history of it. It is a cool little place in the middle of nowhere..

Did you enjoy the Grand Canyon? I never tire of seeing that place...

sten? you mean bren?

cuz sten is kinda small for a mount but stens are cool because you can turn them into stormtrooper blasters
