Looking for "the right" Squad
« on: December 13, 2010, 01:43:09 PM »
<S> All,

I'm skny, a former Air Warrior player (I think my handle then was jakko) from back in the day that's finally come over to AH to quench my thirst for a good multiplayer WWII sim. I'm still learning the ropes a bit, but a lot is coming back to me from my AW days. I'm surprised after really getting to know this game, how similar it really is. And better in many ways!

While I know I can browse the post's and search out a squad to join, I thought it best to post what kind of player "I" am, and what "I'M' looking for in a sqad & see what squads have a need for someone like me. With that said, here's what I know:

1. I used to be in a squad called the 95th Bomber Group in AW. Yes, I love high level bombing runs (B17)
2. I honestly don't like to dogfight / fly fighters much
3. I also enjoy taking the gunner position for just about any type of aircraft.
4. Missions / Scenario's are a blast! I remember the days of hundreds of people manning planes on long missions with huge formations. Looking forward to doing that here too!
5. I'm also cool with manning GV's for coordinated attacks or support roles (naval support is fine too being that I'm a Navy vet!)
6. I'm not a leader. I'm a follower. I'm not one for planning missions, but love taking part in them. I don't like being lead plane, but wingman is cool.
7. Looking for a squad that's patient, likes to have fun, yet is organized & plays to win ;)
8. Looking for a squad that loves setting up missions, takes part in special event scenarios & is all about team play.
9. Looking for a squad that had a dedicated group of veteran bombers (maybe even solely bombers)

I guess that's about it. I know some people might frown on my not wanting to be a true combat pilot, but I know what I like & don't like - and fortunately, games like this allow for people like me ;)
Like I said - I'm also new to AH, but I'm a very quick learner. And while I like to have fun, I take my playing somewhat seriously (I'm 39).

I'm available most week nights (winter time, what else is there to do?) and weekends are open as well; the only exception is Wed nights. I'm in the Cleveland, Ohio area, so I'm in the Eastern Time Zone.

Thanks for reading my post & feel free to ask any questions.

Thanks. I like what I was seeing w/the 91st so far. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing any other squads that weren't actively posting in the forums or something. I will check'em out.

If you are interested in Pacific war, then Don't forget the 444th. We are working our way up (4 active members) and have room for folks in different positions such as operations and such.

I would like to introduce you to the perfect squad for you. TA's 81st Gloucestershire is a new and fresh squadron that takes flying British planes (And American Bombers too) to a new level. We participate weekly in missions, axis vs allies, and even go to special events. Were all about reenacting key moments of the battle of Britain; sometimes in the Dueling Arena and sometimes soaring above the lush fields of East Anglica. We fly and are a team. It is one mans job to cover another mans back, and in response for that man to cover another persons back. We believe more in surviving then killing, and as a result about comradeship. Our values are what motivate this squadron to get up and finish the job everyone else started. We are those few, who get the job done...

We are currently being organized, and looking for trainers and capable individuals interested in having Staff Positions. We have a bomber pilot already who is really good but we could use as many as God gives us!

I'm not a bomber guy, in fact, I can't stand most of them as they tend to make fights turn into a FH killing contest at 30k (mostly due to their lack of targets that effect game play).

That said, of all the bomber groups I find the 91st the most reasonable.

<SALUTE> Jakko,

You are welcome to tune in on Bishop vox 191 anytime. We're a bunch of B17 enthusiasts ourselves, and although we model ourselves after the historical 91st BG, we're in the game mainly for fun & comradery. We fly & drive (& die :D ) in just about anything most nights. Saturdays are our squad nights (7:00) Eastern, although soon we will commit ourselves along with many other players to the upcoming Battle Over Germany scenario beginning with a January 29th coordination frame.

Stop by & see us. :)

P.S.

And Delirium is correct. The strategic end of the main arena still needs to evolve in some way that strikes a balance and has some semblance of realism within the context of the game. We try to make it fun for all sides overall.

skny,

Two Choices Make Sense:

91'st Bomb Group ~ Commanding Officer ThndrEgg
Dick Weed Heavy Bomb Group ~ Commanding Officer Thunder

What makes even more sense is to participate in this event:

http://ahevents.org/scenario-current-or-next.html

As Commanding Officer for the Allied Team, I will personally make sure you get to fly with both the 91'st and DW units.

You can get a taste of how they run their game; how they prosecute a mission/directive.

Either way ~ Either group is exactly what your looking for.

Don't waste time looking anywhere else,

Oneway
CO VIII AF, BoG

PS: I remember you from AW. I flew as 1Way> in those days with Crush (Red Barons) and Manx (=416'th= Lynx)...

Disclaimer: I am a member of the 91'st Bomb Group under ThndrEgg's command. If there was no ThndrEgg and the 91'st, I would be beating on Thunders door to join the DWHBG.

You can check us out also if you wish. We dont fly just bombers but do a lot of bomb runs, particularly on squad nights when we allways work with the knits to capture bases. We dont actively recruit but are looking for 2 members so your welcome to try us out.

Us: Mostly older guys with jobs who enjoy cutting lose and having fun( and complaining about are wives) and seeing who can drink and fly the longest on squad nights before passing out at the stick. We do fly together to and are organized as well.

Look any of us up if you want.   The-Wulf-Pack    http://the-wulf-pack.webs.com/

salute skny welcome to AcesHigh sir. I would recommend the 91st BG they are a great bunch of guys or the Dickweed HBG they are equally as great in those bombers. Watch and learn ,look around and communication is really all you need in here. If you do happen to join either of the two BG, the 20th FG will be there as an escort. In-game ID is RedTail
