F4U engine sound
« on: December 15, 2010, 07:00:26 PM »
Ok u fellow Sound creating guro's.  I would like to know if u guys (Twinboom, USRanger and who ever else creates sounds) have any issues with the F4U eng.wav file?  What is happening to me is I have to set the tempo (speed of the engine sound) of the wav file alot faster to have it produce the proper tempo of the engine sound in the game.  Does the same happen to everyone else?  All other engine sounds are fine but the F4U's.

With almost a 6 sec eng.wav file, in the game the speed of the engine sound is slower then the sound outside of the game.

I'll check it out & report back. Many of my sounds do not sound the same in-game as they do when I created them.:salute

It's not Miles, it's always been that way.

I've made a sound set also and found that of the aircraft engines play at different pitches.  I assume this is owing to HTC supplying only a single engine sound as default.  To account for the different rpm's from plane to plane, they shift the pitch up or down to suit.  Any custom sound put in place of the default sound gets shifted by the same degree.

I make the sound how I want it.  Then put it in game and listen to it and reference the pitch to a musical note.  Then compare that pitch to itself playing outside of the game. I find the difference in semitones, and then shift the pitch up or down accordingly using a sound editor.  Note - the pitch-shift should not preserve duration though as the game doesn't.

There seem to be some filter settings from plane to plane also.  Probably related to perspective.

I assume you all know this...just info for any interested.

Miles isn't that good, notice wind doesn't gradually get louder it goes in volume levels, and the landing gear and flaps cut in and out alot

Please explain the difference between "get louder" and "volume levels"?  I think I'm missing some sort of nuance here.

The sounds gets louder in levels, for example the wind will not smoothly get louder it goes in increments of volume every 20mph or so.
