Headphone w/ mic recommendations?
« on: April 21, 2001, 06:54:00 PM »
I'm looking for a decent set of headphones with built-in boom mic.  Any recommendations?  I'm currently using Koss $40 job... the mic tends to fall off at bad times and the ear pieces are uncomfortable.

Thanks.

Check at electronics boutique I saw a good brand of headset/mic (dont remember brand) and they look very cool and confortable, they go around your ear like the new sony headphones (I love them) instead of over the head.

I wanted to buy those but they go for $30+

I don't use a headset for my computer, but whenever I need a good headset I go to Plantronics.  I have one for my home phone, my cell phone, and have had a few for past cell phones.  Never disappointed with them.

Sancho, check out dogfighter.com for the Plantronics HS1.  They are the blue plastic ones.  That is what I use and I have been told my voice comes in clear on roger wilco.
The sound quality is awsome I never have used external speakers when playing since I got these. The only bummer is they were tight on my head after a long time with them on.  I fixed this by removing the stress band and all is well.  I think I paid 49 dollars at comp USA...

Interesting... Plantronics has an all USB mic/headset.  This means I wouldn't need a sound card??  Could I have speakers plugged in to a sound card and switch my output device easily to USB headphones when I play AH?

I have a Sputnik sized cranium... those headphones comfy on adults' heads?  Are the earpieces covered in foam, or pleather-like material?

Well, I've thought about this a bit and I'm not too keen on any of the headphones I've seen with mic.  I do like some of the big Sony headphones but none of them have mics.  Is there a boom mic add-on product that some company makes?  Or do I need some pipe cleaners and superglue?

I've got a Labtec single earphone/mic combo like phone operators use. The sound isn't the best since it only uses the left speaker channel. It drops a lot of treble too, so if you talk to someone with a deep voice you can't make out what they're saying. The mic kicks ass; everyone I've talked to says I come in clear as a bell. Steely (an aussie) told me I sounded like I was sitting next to him when we last chatted on RW. Only ran me $20 too. Not too bad for playing AH, but I'd blow the extra $10 and get a twin headset instead of a single. Odds are the heavy-bass problem is my sound card and not the head set.

Part number is Labtec C-316

This is the best one I have found, had it a year and havent killed it yet. Note, using it will make people in other rooms come in and tell ya to quiet it down as the padding is so good you cant hear yourself talk.

I have two different sets of Labtec headsets, and they both work great.

I've looked and looked for this headset and I just can't find em. Do you have any ideas where they can be bought?

Staples/Business Depot has lots of different Labtec headsets.  EB and other electronics/puter stores should have a range of them as well.

Check their web site here:  http://www.labtec.com/noflash/gear/voice_pcheadsets.cfm

Their top line ones are here:  http://www.labtec.com/productdetails.cfm?productid=147

You can buy them direct from a link at the bottom of that page.  They have an inline volume and mic mute switch.  Very nice.
