128mb PC133 ECC Ram       65$
Panasonic floppy drive    11$

Total with shipping  331.02
Grand total 617$

Leaves me plenty for possible extra's like a new int CD-RW, or HD.

If you need a new HD you might want to check the price of IBM's 30 or 45Gigs GXP.
I got 45gig here and that HD is silent and fast as h_ll

man the memory is error corecting? isent that rarly needed  nice choices tho. just seems a bit pricy. sweet system for a sweet price tho .

Well all the reading I did said these new systems run a lot smoother on the high end memory. While I may not OC this sys right away, I'm sure at some point I'll want to see how much I can get out of it. Seemed to make sense to go for the good stuff since there really wasn't that much price diff.

I've also got another 128 mb of pc133 comeing from a friend, (at cutthroat prices no less)
so it will be easy to see which it likes best.

Now If I can just keep from killing myself waiting for packages to arrive!

A couple things:  ECC code memory is not actually enabled on kt133 chipsets.  You also get a performance decrease using it.  You would be MUCH better off buying a stick of Crucial PC 133 CAS 2 ram. (Mushkin is good but expensive too.)

As for harddrive, well there is no alternative to the IBM 75GXP drives.  

   

 

I have the 45 Gig one myself.

One last thing, get the kt7a board so you have support for the new athlons at 266 Fsb in the future.  (Edit:  Guess you decided the same thing, didn't see the 'a'.   )

kt7a? what does it support that kt7 standard does not ? ddr ram ?  just curious

The KT7a uses a newer version of the glue chips from Via. This newer chipset is supposedly slighty faster in general but the KT7a supports the higher speed 266 MHz FSB and I think it is also ATA100 on the hard drive interface instead of ATA66.

Exactly pakrat, DMA 100 vs 66, 200/266 FSB
(more likely to be able to upgrade in the future)

Considering the small price difference it made sense to me to go with the KT7-a.
