stall limiter help
« on: December 20, 2010, 08:36:43 PM »
i have been up againest some ppl who were in the same plane as me, which i was sure i could win againest being skilled in that certain plane. Turns out i was wrong so i asked them how they did it, they said flaps and tactics of course i said the same thing because i did. Then he said did i have stall limiter disabled, i said no, he said there is your problem. So i was curious and took it off, i hated it because it seemed to just get me into more stalls then win more fights. What i would like to is how do you guys deal with it, do you like it off or on, and what advantage or disadvantage does it have in a dogfight? Thanks

Leave it off. Learn to control the plane all the way to the edge, and how to recover when you cross that edge.

The stall limiter is a crutch.  The sooner you learn to fly without it the sooner you will be able to compete with anyone.  One hint is to make sure you have your stall horn turned up loud enough to hear over your engine noise.  You will subconsciously learn to ease off on the back pressure when the horn starts to blare.

For about the first week or so you'll have a hard time getting used to it. Then you'll ask yourself why you ever flew with the damned thing on to begin with.  :)

Wait til you get to where you want to start trimming manually. Then the fun really begins  ;)

You'll never get use to it if you only turn it off in the DA. Turn it off and leave it off. Sure your going to suck for a bit, but once you get it under control you'll start wining those fights your losing.

The stall limiter essentially works by limiting the amount of g's that can be pulled. Which is of no advantage in a true fight.

It doesn't limit G load, it limits AoA.

This......It takes about a week to get used to it, but you will never go back to turning it on

Good luck Redtail. shoot me a PM in game if ya want someone to shoot at for practice.

ok thanks guys, and bailey ill see bout that lol. Jo this does have something to do with you but your just a small percentage of it. what i meant by having it off in the DA is to practice with it in there and stay in there until i got it down then head to the MA

One of the most important things to help you in your trasition is to fly with small, smooth control movements.  Flying with stall limiter on may have turned you into a "hamfisted" fighter pilot; meaning you just yanked your stick all around and flew just fine.  Those same habits with stall limiter off will put you into stalls all the time.  Once you start using less drastic movements, you'll stall less and retain E longer - both importants factors in winning a fight.

Leave it off. Learn to control the plane all the way to the edge, and how to recover when you cross that edge.

This is the best advice.  Time for the training wheels to come off and you will see what them birds can really do.  Be prepared to stall out quite a bit at first, but with practice it lessens each day.  Good Luck! :aok
