Internet woes
« on: December 21, 2010, 01:44:13 PM »
A couple days ago, my internet went down and the cable went fuzzy (after the recent ice storm). I do have a wireless connection (and I have tried resetting it, tinkering with the receiver and all the little tricks, so please don't bring those up).

My internet is struggling to even keep this page up right now. Techs came over, fixed a wire, and the cable works and so does the internet, but it is so excruciatingly slow (internet that is). I ran a pingplotter, the connection was perfect, until I went on the internet, then it went from green, to yellow, to red. I don't know what is going on but if anyone out there knows what is going on, please help.

Here is the ping-plotter info. Please tell me it is their domain name server or something, and not anything on my end.  :pray

First hop showing 27 errors and 57% packet loss with a variance ranging from 2 milli-seconds to 2 seconds is pretty painful.

That hop would be your router.  I am surprised you could get the ping plot done.

So there is no way you can physically connect to the router?  Or is the "wireless" connection from your router to your ISP?

The Techs just left, said they had a wire that commited (a pull-out)? They fixed the wire and nothing happened. Then I reset the router (waited a full minute, not the normal 10 seconds) and now the internet runs as fast as ever.
