My new computer...
« on: February 24, 2001, 08:34:00 AM »
Well I've finally got it up and running.

The only real problem I had was the Prophet II Pro card not working. Hercules UK are sending me a modified one that should work with the KT7A-RAID.

The minor problems I had involved me not thinking or being stupid.

Haven't played any games yet, but the SBLive! is working fine so far.

Currently I have and CPU temp of 34 deg celcius (with the dial up program and IE running)! Haven't done a stress test yet.

<S> to everyone who offered advice while I was building it/

PS. after being used to Windows taking 30 secs to load, seeing boot in less than 8 is pretty amazing!

Do the usual where ya set yer file system from "desktop computer" to "network server" it is generally accepted that this way usues a more efficent file system.

run "MSCONFIG" and limit yer startup to only a few ESSENTAL programs.
all i have running is explorer and taskman at startup.

...will think of more later.

Overclock the snot out of it!  Pump it up until you can run AH without going over 50 degrees C and you'll be set.

Cheers Wobble.   I've already stripped start-up bare.

Just played an hour of Soldier of Fortune. Temperature of CPU afterwards - 36 degrees!!! That arctic silver stuff is very good. I'd recommend the Antec SX-830 Performance case to anyone - the two built-in 80mm fans can be moved around the case and have snap-on attachments.

lol lephturn!   I daren't touch any of the settings yet.

Now I'll download AH and see how that goes.
