Sad day in the Chicago Fire Department
« on: December 22, 2010, 03:01:18 PM »
Today the Chicago Fire Department lost 2 firefighters while fighting a fire in a vacant building.  19 other firefighters were injured while fighting this fire, and trying to remove the downed firefighters.

It is a very sad day.

No need to arm Chair this fire.  I will be first say no reason to put people inside a vacant building!  We don't know if there were squatters or homeless in the building.  That maybe the reason why they were fighting the fire inside the building.

It is a sad day when it is this close the Christmas.

My thoughts and Prayers to the lost firefighters and there families this Christmas season.   :salute

Great men meet some of them when they escorted us home after we got back from Iraq. Some of the guys had been in our Battalion.

Prayers to those they left behind.
But if the building was vacant - why fight the fire from the inside?
Is a human life worth any empty building let alone something that sounds like it should have been torn down?
"Chicago’s worst firefighter tragedy in more than a decade claimed the lives of two firefighters Wednesday morning when the roof of an abandoned building with a history of code violations collapsed on top of them."
I think their policy needs to be reviewed - seems like such a waste.
