AH 2 and Win 7
« on: December 22, 2010, 05:40:11 PM »
Just upgraded to win 7 and have trouble launching ah.  I double-click on the ah shortcut and the opening screen displays followed by a couple of error boxes.  I can close them out and ah wil continue to run.  I'm sure it's some setting or check box I missed.  Any ideas?

What are the errors?  I'm still running Vista-64bit, so haven't tried Win7 yet.

What O/S did you upgrade FROM?  If it is left over from a previous Vista installation, try installing it over the existing installation.

Is this a clean install upgrade or a patch over the "older" OS.

If you're trying to run the old archived version that still shows on your hard disk, you should download and install a new version. The old, archived Windows XP files are nice to have, but you can't run the app from there. You can copy over your settings folder, though. That will save you a lot of time.

I saved the settings, skins, sounds, stick def and sights folders before I made the upgrade.  I downloaded AH again and when I install it (either  "normally", or run as administrator) I get the same error now;

The file C:\Hitech Creations\AcesHigh\stickdef\sticks\ch3axis10buttonpovusbjoystick.jsm could not be opened.  Please check that your disk is not full and that you have access to the destination directory.  The file directory is corrupted and unreadable.

I have turned off antivirus/firewall while trying to install with the same results.
any ideas?

How about reverting to default settings folder so that a new .jsm file is created for your joystick?

So I should delete the old stick def folder? The one I had saved from the previous install?

You can do the upgrade but you do this file backup program from Microsoft which moves files back after the upgrade.  The upgrade from XP basically wipes the old os.  I redownloaded ah after the upgrade and re downloaded again this morning with the same result.

I would rename the settings and stickdef folders and then reinstall the game and try to run it.

You might have to reprogram the stick, but I think at that point it will regenerate the files needed for your stick, as it looks like the old one got corrupted somehow...
