Renovation time...

Alright,
I am finally upgrading my sound and video cards..

I currently run a SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio for sound(built-in) and a Trident Blade3D/MVP4 for the graphix.

Both suck,(cant run RW with SoundMAX and poor framerate with the video).

Any sugestions in hardware??? They MUST be PCI, for there are no AGP ports on motherboard.

Hmmmmm, Let's See!

V4 4500 is cheap, available in PCI and very solid card

I would say v5 but without AGP the extra cost isnt justified.

V4 4500's drivers are more solid than anything NvIdia will ever make, CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP, and has all the trimmings.

For soundcards PCI only is no problem.  All newer soundcards are PCI.

On the video cards you could go with the V4, but I'd look for a GeForce 2 mx based PCI card.  (I've seen them before.)  The V4 is kind of a dud.  It performs no better than the V3, but it can do 32 bit color at least.

As for AGP vs PCI if you have enough texture memory on the card (>16MB or 32MB even better) there is little difference.  Remember that all AGP allows is the video card to directly access blocks of system ram to store texture data there.  A PCI card must wait for it's turn along with all the other PCI devices in the system.  If it has plenty of memory on the card though this becomes less of an issue.

As far as the sound card is concerned you can't beat Creative IMO.

Both the SB PCI 128, & the Live value are reasonably priced and will give you great service.

Wobble, the PCI version is very nearly as good as the AGP version of the V5.  I think it's the best deal you can get on a PCI video card.

GeForces are really good but PCI version is about 30% slower than AGP version so best card you can put in pci slot is Voodoo4 4500 or voodoo 5 5500.
