I saw these being used in a video for a home built flight simulator. They took off the ear pieces and mounted the whole thing in a real pilots helmet. Track IR is supposed to be compatible with them also.

Why?
Aces High plays really well in 3D. Mainly it's just the cockpit you notice.

well, i was thinking of a trackir, but then the though hit me.....if i got that, it'd be to try for a little more immersion...i suck bad enough that nothing's gonna help me....but to be able to "look around" rather than push a button.......the trackir i'd be only moving my head a little for the rearward look....i get the impression that with these, if i want to look up/back, that i really do look up/back?  THAT would be awesome stuff.......

No these are totally different than track IR these actually work as you move your head totally around to look back over your shoulder, up or down.

that's what i was hoping......so if i'm flying, and want to look down part the trailing edge of my wing, i'd really move my head like that, right?

but if you turn your head all the way around, how do you know what you're missing on the monitor in front of ya?

What your looking thru is the moniter. The set is equal to looking at a 62 inch moniter at 9 feet distance. The big set back is the resolution is only 640X480 16 million color.

thank ya sir. i've been reading through some of the links.

 now here's another question.

when one uses trakir, i presume that the user can only turn his head so far, and maintain sight of the monitor. so for instance, you may set it up so that if you move your head 15 degrees left, then you are looking over your left shoulder. is this correct?

well.....now, take this thing, and disable its tracking ability, and use the trakir with it. since the monitor is now attached to your face(technically speaking), can the trakir now be set up in such a way as you can actually look over your shoulder to look over your shoulder?

if vulcan happens upon this thread, any additional light he can shed would be awesome. i WISH i could justify spending the money on the set he has...but i'm still a poor guy.

once i get past this, i'll probably try for the moving sim pit that i saw in a video linked into one of those threads........

You probably couldn't do that, because the TrackIr camera would lose track of the reflectors or clip. But why would you chose not to use the built in tracking ability of VR glasses?

the ones i linked in the thread apparently don't work all that well. at least not according to what i read in most of the links.

when it comes down to it, i could possibly find a way to afford the ones vulcan uses, but i'm not sure i can justify them in my own mind right now.......not for that price.
