Doctor Who Christmas Carol
« on: December 26, 2010, 07:48:57 PM »
What did you think?  I give it thumbs up.

I thought it was a good Dr. Who twist of the classic, done-to-death tale.

Sir Michael Gambon played a great "Scrooge" - I didn't even know he was Harry Potter's Prof. Dumbledore.
Katherine Jenkins did a good job in her acting debut - what a beauty with a beautiful mezzo soprano singing voice.

I thought it was reasonably well done although it's a shame that Rory and Amy were given very little to do until near the end.  The guest stars really were the best part of the production. The flying fish were pretty cool but I didn't quite get their importance in the story. That part seemed kind of tacked on to be honest.

Of course there were some timey-wimey bits that appeared out of synch with previous stories, such as the Doctor being able to totally re-arrange someone's personal timeline.  If he's been able to do this, why not go back in time and, I don't know, fix it so big bad guys like Davros have the puppies they secretly wanted?  I suppose it falls under the category of  "some things can be changed, others can't" rule, but allowing the younger and older selves to meet definitely flies in the face of previous "rules".

Yes, it's Doctor Who....and rules are made to be broken, but still....

Anyways, it's not the best Who episode, but far from the worst.

Is that a flying shark in the background?  We're gonna need a bigger boat  :uhoh

I'll have to check it out sometime, might be something enjoyable.

i dunno.

i do know that it was a very good episode.

i was also watching the re-runs before that episode.

has anyone noticed the sort of scary/dark side he seems to have been hiding for quite some time? like a side that if it were to be let out it would be a bad bad thing for everyone?(in the show of course)

I think the flying shark was over modeled. Everybody knows a flying shark doesn't have that type of sustained turn rate. ;)

You need to check your "Jane's Fish Identification" book again. It was obviously a Tiger Shark. P-40 Flying Tiger Shark.  You can tell by looking from the dorsal fin to the tail.
