Here's a good link
http://www.pricewatch.com/ for finding what you need in video cards (and other hardware). I suggest the GeForce 2 -32 meg "Pro" or GTX (Pro has a panel allowing you to overclock it) ..I bought a Winfast brand and am very pleased with it. Also, read the article below I posted, it speaks of GeForce 3 and Geforce 2 comparison via todays games.
If you want raw speed and fairly good video quality, the current winner is the GeForce 2 Ultra. It is dropping in price thanks to the forthcoming GeForce 3 and beats the GeForce 3 in todays games. If you value image quality over all else, buy an ATI Radeon. They have awesome 2D and 3D image quality with deep rich colors. Besides, if you do go for a DVD-ROM drive, couple the Radeon with WinDVD 2.3 or later and you will get outstanding hardware playback that is better than just about any other PC option. If you have a 17" monitor and run at 1152x864 or lower resolutions, both cards should give you pretty solid performance. If you are devoted to 1600x1200 resolutions, the Ultra is a very good option.
Why not the GeForce 3? Cost to benefit ratio. From the reference designs we have seen, the 2D and 3Dimage quality is much improved over the GeForce 2 series, but it is actually benchmarking slower in titles like Quake 3 Arena and Unreal Tournament. Give it another six months to a year and it may be worth it, but right now, we have to say take a pass.
