haha, I read a book once called "Guns of the South," basically some military guys come back in time and give the south AK47s and training etc.... funny book, but pretty stupid.

Obviously, this is a bad attempt at humor.   :huh 

Slavery was a dieing entity.  All one has to do is look at the long line of events from pre-1776 to 1850-ish and see how little by little slavery was going to die.  It was only a matter of time and the bulk of the South knew that.  They just wanted to do it on their own whim, not by the stroke of a pen by someone not "of" them.
