A couple of hours from me is this wonderful place called Stuttgart, Arkansas.

Duck hunter's HEAVEN.

Sure, there's good hunting about an hour north of Sacremento, CA, but nowhere near as big as Stuttgart.

This time of year--GOOD LUCK on finding a motel room and most motels have "mud rooms" at the end of each wing that has water hoses and extra towels.  If you aren't in the lobby before 6:30 good luck on there being any "free" breakfast left.

Lots of politicians and company bigwigs reserve entire motel wings for a week.

The duck hunter's mega-store on the north side of town get's stripped bare...the duck call company next door has lines that go on forever.

It's one massive rice field 20 miles in diameter....for night life there's 2 bars for the whole town.  The 2 liquor stores have literally nothing on the shelves after the first couple of nights.

The rest of the year the place is sad, boring, and most kids 19 and older leave and never come back.

I'm in a lease a couple miles northwest of Humphrey. We go to Mack's Prairie Wings whenever we can, it's a beast of a duck store. It's been slow lately since that big freeze locked the fields down, but earlier some guys in the lease smoked over 200 ducks in four hunts; mostly spoonbills and mixed mallards/teal/gadwall. The best I've done was 21 woodies and 3 mallards at my deer camp.

The best waterfowl hunting I've been on was in Wellington, Kansas. The goose hunting in those defy peanut fields is amazing. Last year we smoked 54 wigeon in less than 10 minutes.

Tyrannis,

You know what you're correct.  I'm sorry I took a shot at you like that. If I can I will delete my posting.  I know one of Flench's threads got deleted about a hunting topic so I took the offense. I will man up and say that I am sorry.

Fishing can be catch and release. Hunting can not.  Dead is dead. I eat what I shoot. I don't hunt for the thrill and I will not let game go to waste.

I deleted my previous post.

PETA would love you guys.  I never had duck hunted but one of my college buddies (who is a duck hunter advocate) made kabobs from seven species of duck.  It was wonderful.

Yeah , if your not going to eat it don't kill it . I give meat to the Feed The Needy every year up in TN . It is a really good program ..If any of you guy's are close to TN check it out . They need all the meat they can get to help the hungry .
So , when a dude come's in and make's a remark like I DON"T LIKE PIC"S OF BLOOD and so on just goes to show that he should do a little research before making that kind of remark . To me it make's them look like a fool ..
When I hunt now though it's fun I am thinking of the people that don't have any thing to eat and not able to get out and get there own . You would be surprised at the people that don't have meat to eat and every little bit help's . I know that if it was not for me there would be several people around here going without that are on disability and just don't have the money and are not able to hunt for them self's ..So as long as I am able to hunt there will be meat on these people's table . My grammar mite be bad and I can't spell worth a crap but I can shoot and feed the needy ...

Flench,

Ohio has a program as well where hunters can donate venison to the food banks to help feed the less fortunate.  Its a great program. There are many states that have a program. Of course the states all have different acronyms for their programs.

TN and here in AR as well--MANY deer hunters donate a portion of the meat to local homeless shelters and food banks after they have dressed it and in some cases had it processed into deer sausage (at their own expense).

Sure, there are organizational places to donate to but most small town folks already know who to donate it to whether their deep freeze is full or not.

Kansas to has a program.  In fact, i believe most states have the same program.  There are a lot of hunters out there that just want their kill for taxidermy reason and do not eat the meat.

Tyraniss,

From what I have heard about rifle hunting in Ohio is this. The northern part of the state is to flat and the powers that be are afraid of a high powered rifle bullet traveling to far and striking a person or a house.  Also the northern part of the state is densely populated compared to the rest of the state.  Many states have shotgun slug hunting only. Slugs just don't travel as far as a center fire rifle cartridge.

Of course today's sabot slugs have the capability of traveling 200 yards or more.  You just have to use common sense and good judgment before pulling the trigger.

Rifle bullets travel far.  Shotgun slugs don't.  Ohio's terrain as I'm sure you know is by in large flat.  A high power rifle bullet can travel great distances with no surrounding terrain to stop it before it travels said great distance potentially risking the lives of people over a mile from where the shot was discharged.

There are quite a few areas that have hilly terrain but I've hunted all my life in Ohio using a shotgun.  Essentially my 11-87 shooting a 3" Copper Solid is a rifle.  It's accuracy isn't that of a match rifle but I've taken deer at 150 yards with it.  I don't feel I'm missing out on anything a rifle could do and I have the knock down power of anywhere from 3-6 rifle bullets in weight with a 1oz slug.  I use your standard Remington Slugger (2-3/4" 1oz slug) most of the time and carry some Remington Coppersolid 1oz rifled slugs in a plastic sabot should the area I'm hunting require it.

Short answer is the thought is with everyone toting high power rifles there are rounds that are going to be sailed potentially a long way from where they were fired.  No need for that.

down here in clermont county, its moslty woody terrain. makes me thing the rifle round would get stuck in a tree before it ever got close to hitting anyone. least where i am it is.
