ships, guns and fun

Whats the best warship you've ever been on? (a few pics would be nice too!) i have to say that ive only been on one but i plan to visit a few more
the U.S.S. Cobia in Manitowak Wisconsin was one that i have been on while visiting family and i must say it is a quite intresting submarine

i actually got to sleep in it! (im not lieing there) and right on one of the torpedo's too! it was fun and exciting. this is possibly the best WW2 submarine/ship i have ever been on. and kudos to the people who helped restore it to 100% full-working state  :salute

I've been on a few though the best was the USS Salem, just outside of Boston. It is part of a modified Baltimore Class Heavy Cruiser class. In fact, in the game the cruiser that tools around with the carrier shooting 8" gun rounds is a Baltimore.

My Dad served on the USS St. Paul (CA-73) during the Korean War. His ship is straight a Baltimore Class, and the USS Salem is different, though the layout is the same. Only geeks would know the difference between the two classes of ships.

And the tour guide let me climb up to the 5" gun director where my Dad served when at battle stations.

One of the advantages of being interested in history, raising kids, and just being around for a while: seen a lot of museums and stuff - but most of the time not into the naval side as much.

Even so, been on the USS North Carolina in Wilmington; the U505 in Chicago; the USS Massachusetts, USS Joseph Kennedy, the Hiddensee (a russian built missile corvette; USS Constitution in Boston; the USS Becuna (Balao class fleet sub); USS Nautilus (first nuclear powered sub). The USS Olympia was closed when we were in Philly. Not sure where, but I know I've been on a ww2 era DDE.

I remember one time I went through Baltimore, MD we went on the US Coast Guard Cutter Taney, it was pretty cool, this ship fought in Pearl Harbor, and some other pacific battles as well as defending a convoy during a air attack in the atlantic.

I can't find the link, but I was on the only pre-WWI military destroyer to have survived both wars.  It was on my yearly trip to Poland, and man was it cool!

USS Constitution. Don't have any of my own pictures since it was when I was 7-8 years old. However, it does have the fun fact of being in the service for over 200 years.
