WWII History Q's and A's
« on: January 05, 2011, 12:41:35 PM »
Just finished reading a book that gave me a lot of insights to WWII and thought I'd start a thread with a question per day and see what answers come up.  Considering there are some great historians on this site I think it could be a good learning opportunity for many and create some interesting discussions.  Please keep it civil folks.

Q) What was the purpose of the Enabling Act passed by the Reichstag in March of 1933?

Go!

The Enabling Act (German: Ermächtigungsgesetz) was passed by Germany's Reichstag and signed by President Paul von Hindenburg on 24 March 1933. It was the second major step, after the Reichstag Fire Decree, through which Chancellor Adolf Hitler legally obtained plenary powers and established his dictatorship. It received its name from its legal status as an enabling act granting the Cabinet the authority to enact laws without the participation of the Reichstag. The act stated that it was to last for four years unless renewed by the Reichstag, which occurred twice.

Or at least paraphrase.  Researching online isn't verbotten.  But please don't cut and paste the answers  (and please skip wiki).  I'm hoping for not only an answer but some discussion as well.  That way we all learn more about the subjects and broaden our knowledge.

A little early but.

neither....aqua man left the league of superheros after many complaints stating that his ability to call the creatures of the sea was not very helpful as many of the fish he would call would never show up to the battle due to the fact they didn't have legs to walk up on the shore. next question
