Successful test. Utilized suggestions from an old post to generate the audio.
Equipment: SONY ICD-PX820 Digital Voice Recorder:
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-ICD-PX820-Digital-Voice-Recorder/dp/B00387E5BM
Standard Stereo cable
1/8" to 1/4" to stereo adapter from Radioshack:
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062462
Volume control for input:
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102975
Kept this at the minimum setting to prevent from everything sounding over modulated.

Camera is a GOPRO Hero HD on a Kingston 32GB SDHC
Post edit compression to H264 720x576 using the ALLOK video converter.
Video split using the Boilsoft Video Splitter to achieve proper audio start. Audio added using YAMB 2.1
