“Defend” button on clipboard
« on: January 06, 2011, 01:01:04 PM »
Just an odd thought. …

What if there was a “Defend” button on the clipboard when you are in tower mode.  Clicking it will automatically take you to the field or VH that most recently went into flashing state.   If there are no fields in flashing state, the button is not enabled.

The idea is that the best way to stop a field capture is as early in the process as possible.  So a field that has just started flashing is better to jump to  (on average) that a field that has been under attack for a while.

It also encourages people to join in defense by making it easier and quicker.  You don’t even look at the map to figure out what field is under attack.  If you go to tower and hit that button , boom you are sent somewhere where your effort is needed.  Sorta like defense “instant action.”  ;)

I would use that feature. I like playing defence and would like a quick way to get to an airfield/v-base that is just about to be attacked.  The problem I can see is, what about those times when an enemy passes close enough to flash the field but is really on their way to a different target? would people start to not use that button because it keeps redirecting them to "false alarm" fields?  Still a +1 vote from me though :aok
The real problem is anyone should feel like they can come to this forum and make a wish without being treated in a derogatory manner.  The only discussion should be centered around whether it would work, or how it would work and so on always in a respectful manner.

A valid point.

However, I'm not sure its any different really than if you were looking at the map yourself and saw a field flashing, decided to go there, only to see them pass by.  I don't see it as being any worse.

Or how about a "Fields On Alert" tab on the clipboard?  This would show every friendly field number with flashing radar.  Kind of like a country-wide intelligence gathering.  Not that much harder to scan the map though.  Just a thought.

Thats a good idea.  Let me suggest a synthesis...

One column of that list is "Time in Alert" and the list is sorted in ascending order.
By default when you click on that tab, the initial selection is on the top item (i.e. the most recently flashing).
You can then immediatly click on the "Defend" button on the "Fields on Alert" tab and get taken to the most recent field.  Or you can select a different one first.

That way you get the best of both worlds.  You can just accept the default selection and go "Instant Action" or pick another one instead.

#1 Yes! This would make it easier.

#2 No! I don't want it easier.

I am going to go with #2, but thanks.

You're welcome.  :lol

Hey, I like a good NOE as much as anyone, but I still think this would be a good idea.

Interesting idea.  And like any feature (like detailed terrain, shadows, stall limiter, etc.), if implemented would be the player's choice whether to use it or not.  Everybody wins.

OK, never thought about that, I don't have to bother using it and it would probably make it alot easier on the new guys.  I know I was lost when I first started here, the hardest thing for me was finding the enemy so I change my mind to #1,

Good job.

What fields show up on this list would follow the same logic as what fields are flashing.  Its just a list of flashing fields.

I can't remember right now...do fields not flash if their DAR are down?

doesnt this defeat the idea of a NOE or GV raid?
