The 190A5 at the time had PLENTY of slots open. In such a case there's no reason not to have different interpretations of the same skin. There was precedent with the older F6F (which has since been remodeled, and no longer has the duplicates).
Personally I don't like NrRaven's because the camo is fictional and more herringbone than LW splinter camo. He has certain opinions (or at the time had -- things change) about this pre-made black splotchy pattern over the crosses and other markings which just doesn't hold up to historical photos.
As for the skins, I have only recently (past month) learned something very interesting. First, the reason for the 2 skin variations was different interpretations of the different planes. Graff had at least 2, with and without the yellow underneath the tulips. One had the high-alt external supercharger inlets that were experimental and mostly abandoned on later models. One did not. Some artwork on the planes had an interpretation of the non-yellow skin as more of a winter camo because of the time frame of the 2 skins.
However, I have just recently learned that none of the 3 skins is valid for in-game use. I sent an e-mail to HTC just now explaining this and requesting they be removed. The 6 months that Hermann Graf was in command of JGr Ost he was removed from all combat. He was being kept out of combat so as not to lose a 200-kill-ace. This happened more often than you might think in the LW, for morale reasons.
The 6 months Graf was in JGr Ost he did indeed fly 2 aircraft like these skins, however there was no combat, there was no enemy action. It was a training school. Graf was then tasked with forming a new unit, hand-picked to best help stop the bomber streams hitting Germany pretty hard. He helped organize and form JGr 50. We have a nice skin or two from that unit on our Bf109s. This unit only flew Bf109s from the start, never Fw190s. Graf flew along side them after their formation and for the first time in about a year scored some kills with them. However, he was flying Bf109s with JGr 50, and not Fw190A-5s with JGr Ost.
In short:
1) There were 2 planes
2) The lighter interpretation is inaccurate I think (with hindsight)
3) none of them ever saw combat, are training skins, and don't belong in the game
Before you ask, this is news to me. I was comparing Graf's kills and when he got them, and with what units, and one thing lead to another. I dug up a number of resources online that were most helpful and in the end came to the informed conclusion you have before you.
