Any Asus K7M or Athlon 700 Users here?
« on: February 28, 2000, 12:16:00 PM »
I have been looking at a new processor/motherboard combo for a couple of months now, and with the recent price cuts have turned my interest to the Asus K7M and Athlon 700 (currently $350 if purchased together).

I will probably pair this with a Guillemont 3D Prophet Ge-Force SDR board for about $165.

Anyboard have any experience with these, or any comments ??

I would reccomend AGAINST the K7M board, I had to install one and they are a pain. Asus simply refuses to support it in any meaningfull way, you have to scrounge all over for drivers and bios updates. And really, in the end it's miniscule overclocking option is pathetic compared to what a golden fingers could give you on a K7 chip.

I have setup 3 other boards, I would reccomend the Biostar one, it was by far the most easy to do, or if you like fiddling the FIC one also was great.

Feed-back at some of the hardware testing sites indicates that the KX-133 boards will easier to setup.    I've seen one or two posts which favor the new MSI slot A board with the ICS9248BF-110 clock generator which provides for incremental overclocking but I don't think MSI will use via chipset in both north and south bridges.    Aopen and Abit may have slot A boards with a month or so.

Thanks alot BBGun

I didn't realize that any of the KX-133 boards were out yet.

Just ordered a Epox EP-7KXA, with the Via KX-133 chipset, and an Athlon 700 CPU.

Mucho gracias!
