Aces High on Smart Phones?
« on: January 11, 2011, 11:38:01 AM »
Doesn't seem likely, but who knows some day? Just loaded X Plane on my Motorola Droid X. Not much to it, but it is kinda fun. Six-axis controller on Droid X as on PlayStation 3. Pricey at $10 (most smart phone applications are free or around $5).  :airplane:

Wouldn't hurt for Aces High to investigate this market. Smart phones seem destined to rule the world along with home computer big screen and full size keyboard base stations.

It would be far easier to port AH to a game console, like the XBox or the Wii.

That said, as much as it would help HTC financially, it would irrevocably change this game and (imho) not for the better.

The game market for smart phones are in social and casual games though some MMO companies like Icarus Studios have made an app for their game Fallen Earth.

I just can't see something like AH working on a smart phone.  Not enough control fidelity.

What I've often been curious about, is why the consoles don't have a decent sim that will support USB joysticks and trackIR and the like.  There'd be a decent number of people who might not have $600-800 to get a decent computer and then the money for a good joystick that might have the $300 or less for a console and the controllers to go with it.

Almost all smartphones use ARM (mainly ARM Cortex-A8/9 & ARM 11s) based chipsets. These chipsets, although are more powerful than they have ever been are still significantly less powerful than your desktop computer thus would be unable to deliver the same experience that you have on your computer.

Six-axis controllers are a hoot but I wonder if they ever will have real-life flying applications. Their most pronounced universal sweep is in Google Sky -- like being in the center of a transparent Earth looking outward with a true 360-degree view of the heavens. (That's probably technically inaccurate somewhere, but it's important to at least try to convey its unprecedented scope.)

As we all know, Aces High aficionados should have little trouble flying drones in real war. Various clips in YouTube and elsewhere show current military drone setups using joysticks and auxiliary sticks similar to what many of us are used to. And when it does come to air-to-air drone combat, who has more experience than Aces Highers?

One problem, in this game it only costs $15 a month to ram planes all you want, in Real life, easily 100's of millions for one oopsie.

crapbox=no. wii= :rofl

make it a ps3 exclusive, best graphics you can get out of a console, plus psn is free, therefore you wouldnt have to pay an internet fee+aceshigh fee like you would if it came out on xbox. plus ps3 has the most gb's out of all consoles. you can easily "supercharge" yours to 500gb. plus if you sign up for folding home you get unlimited gbs wihile hooked up to online.

*cough* fanboy *cough*
also, with all those facts that the XBox came out a whole year before PS3? it is sort of required that the PS3 would perform better, otherwise it would have been a bigger launch flop than it already was. Also, if it was exclusive, that would mean less money for the company, which is probably the only reason why they would make it console.

not a fanboy, i just know from experiance. ive owned 2 360s. ( both died from RROD) and my mother owned a wii i played some. plus a ps3. and out of all 3, the ps3 outshines all.
coming out a whole year before was one of the biggest mistakes microsoft made (other than releasing the 360 in the first place). 360 had many bugs, problems, etc.they were sued 3 times.(over RROD, disk scratching, and some design flaw). when the ps3 came out, it had no flaw. except maybe the heavy price tag. but it was def worth what you payed.only problem ive ever had with my ps3 was it wouldnt turn on for a day, and thats cus i spilled water on it. and ive had mine ever since 2007. and the only universal problem ps3 ever had was a clock bug that kicked people off psn when they were using the older ps3s. and sony fixed that within a week. unlike microsoft who had to release a brand new redesigned console, plus add a 2 year warrenty to fix the RROD and disk scratching issues. and also i laugh at the people who say "ps3 doesnt have any games". ps3 has more exclusives than 360 does. alot more. combined with free internet+home+web browser+blueray+240 player online battles+1080I+better graphics+more gb's make ps3 the best console game out there. and no, thats not entirely true about making more money by going multi-plat. most companies that do that will design the game on the lowest quality console they plane to sell to, then simply port the game over to the others. so out of wii+crapbox+ps3. aceshigh would be made on the wii, with the crappy graphics etc, then ported to the 360&ps3. sure it may sell on the wii, but imagine trying to play aceshigh with ps1 graphics? that would make alot of crapbox&ps3 players turn away. but if it was ps3 exclusive, you'd have more space to code. the ps3 has more gbs, you'd have the free internet. the much better graphics. and psn onlines prob the only one who could handle the amount of online players aceshigh currently has per room. MAG was able to have 240 player online matches. its allready been proven crapbox live cant even get close to that.

What the hell is wrong with your ps3?

PS3 are for poor poeple... it's worth for it paying xbox live and having more features on it than only having the option playing online and sitting on the internet and chatting or downloading something... xbox live has: Voice message, Character customization, NetFlix (you pay for it) And much more...

(some of these features are also supported at the ps3)

rly? cus my ps3 is the $700 limited edition black 160gb ps3. thats alot more than xbox costs, xbox is more of the poor peoples gaming console. ps3 has voice chat/voice message, netflix(Was the first out of all console to get it) and hulu. and a web browser, which crapbox doesnt. plus ps3 has HOME. which is alot funner "charcter cusomization" than xbox live has. on live you just have a little dude who u dress up and shows on your pro card, cant do anything else with him. on psn HOME, the games like a mix between the sims&second life. you can take your avatar on there and play psn exclusive games, chat with ppl, buy house cloths etc. alot more customization than live gives you.and no. its not "worth it". you pay live to get the online options you'd be getting free with the ps3 and the web browser, wanna watch videos on youtube? or serf the internet? just open the web browser. its free and has alot more access than live gives you.

i hate to say this PS3 fanboys but looking at the spec sheets for PS3 and Xbox 360 , the 360 actually comes in with a better spec. Mostly down to the CPu (which is AMD ) and the GC (which is ATI) that were deigned from the ground up to work together. The Gigabite MB that comes custom made for the Xbox.   A good comparison is the graphics between cross platform games such as  fall out 3 which looks it's best on PC ( no surprise)  but closely followed by the 360 which had a longer depth of field (approx 4 mile) with out the use of fogging while still holding a steady 60fps . The 360 also had better reflections and shading while also benefiting  from crisper edges and deeper colours .
The PS3 version had less detailed textures , no  true reflections in the water  and only a 1.5 mile depth before the horizon "fog" obscured the view. Ps3 version also suffers with choppy frame rate in times of intense battle , washed out colour pallets , less smooth textures and lines . PS3 suffers from being Blueray  disc instead of HDDVD . Blueray actually stores less information per disc for games due  to the huge memory demands made . This emplanes the downgrade in graphics  and smaller size of the maps compared to the Xbox and PC  versions.  PS3 also has a bigger heat and noise issues of it's own .  That's not just my experience but also reported by places such as gamespot
