fast trackir question
« on: January 12, 2011, 10:14:54 PM »
there's two versions of the trackir5. one is the "pro" bundle. looks like that one has a usb or battery powered led clip for tracking. the regular one looks to come with just a reflective one.  no picture, so i don't know hwat it connects to.

price difference is $20.00. is the led one worth the extra money? what do you guys use? i'm about to pull the trigger on it since i can;'t afford the really good vr goggles.

thanks doods!!

TrackClip Pro is the led emmiter that clips to your headset.  That's what I use with my TIR4 hardware.  It's an extra wire hanging down with my headset wire, but I think it's worth it.  I never used the reflectors that clip onto a baseball cap.  I saw no reason to wear a hat while sitting at my computer.

I have read a few posts here that lead me to believe the 'Pro' Clip is a rather fragile piece of hardware.

I use the Track Hat, as I don't like to wear the headset all the time. No problems.

Do the voice options on track hat work in AH?

Yes it's delicate;  as with anything, it's how you treat it and care for it.

How delicate is your headset/mic?  Just don't go throwing it around or setting your keyboard (or your butt) on it.   :D

It is - although they have since improved it.

I am on my second and, comparing the two designs, the second was beefed up quite a bit.

OK...GONNA HIjack my own thread.....what do you guys use for headsets? right now, i've been using a somewhat cheesy set, that goes behind my head, rather than over.

I use a Logitech (I think 350 series) headset that I picked up at Walmart for about $35-40. I've been using this one for over a year now. It has a boom style mic that is adjustable up and down & in and out ( closer or further from the mouth). My squaddies have always said it sounds good.    :salute

I use an eDimensional AudioFX Force Feedback Gaming Headset. Fun when tanking, you can feel the vibration of approaching GV's through your head

You can buy the TrackClip separately if you decide to just get the reflective hat piece and don't like it. It'll cost $35 + postage though. http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/02-products/product-TrackClip-PRO.html Now available in white and red, as well as black! :lol

I got the TrackClip as I already wore a headset and didn't want to wear a hat whenever I flew. It is a bit delicate. If you drop it and it lands the wrong way there's a fair chance it'll break. Mine has been fine since I got it, but broke while moving a few months ago.

It's these two tiny plastic pegs that might snap.
