Moving from hatswitch to a TrackIR type system has an adjustment curve and you will initially become worse. I'm not trying to put you off, just don't give up on it!

I've had my clip for over a year now, possibly two, and never had it break at all.  I don't think I've taken any particular care really, maybe I just got an extra strong one, or have been really lucky.  I clip it on my headset, no problems at all.  I'd say give the clip a shot man, I'm almost certain you'll love it.

As for the headset:  Turtle Beach HPA2 for the win!!  http://pcgamingcorner.com/wordpress/?p=1485

The mic sounds great and is totally flexible, so it never gets in the way.  The positional audio is fantastic, they sound really great for music and movies.  Also, I might add, they're the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn.

I was forced to use the clip because Mrs. Wiley kept breaking into uncontrollable laughter every time she walked by me with the ballcap on.

The clip is not a load bearing device, by any stretch, but as long as you don't put anything heavy on it that actually breaks the plastic, it'll be ok.  Mine has a tendency if I happen to drop my headset to come apart at the one joint in cactuskooler's pic, but it's soft enough it just appears to go back together with no permanent harm done, on mine.  I had thought about reinforcing it, but what worries me about that is if you reinforce it before it breaks, and it has something heavy enough on it, I'd say it would be more likely to break worse.  I know I've dropped my headphones and if I'd had it taped or whatever, I'm reasonably certain it'd have broken similar to cactuskooler's.

As for a headset, I use a set of Zalman 5.1 surround headphones.  They're pretty inexpensive for a surround setup, but I've had wires inside them break, so I'm on my second set.  I don't believe I'd recommend them to another person, they're good enough for me though.

Tell me about it.  First time Mrs. Bino spotted me wearing mine, she archly inquired, "Does the hat make you fly better?"

I recall reading - I think it was on the TrackIR forums - that the cap-mounted reflectors end up being farther away from the center of rotation of your head, and so might make it easier for the TrackIR to pick up movement.  I still use the reflector on a cap with my TrackIR 3.  YMMV

WHAT's really funny for me, is that mom's visiting....well...she way....just left for florida today. anyway, she hears me talking, on vox, she hears when there's fights last night, with us all watching out for each other......first she laughs, being as a grown man does this....then she asks "are you REALLY" flying with other real people?

That's the same headset I use and agree totally.

I even have my TIR mounted on the top of it,no need to wear a hat.

I'm reluctant to comment on things I haven't tested myself. ;)
The tea thing I did today. Wrecked both my new TFT as well as my TrackIR, with no hopes of being able to replace any of them this year. I'm back to a 17" CRT now  :(

It's not a cell phone nor does it have an internal battery. Take the lense off and put it in a cup of denatured alchahol and then let it dry for a couple days. Make sure the circuit board is completely dry before plugging it in. Might just fire up for you.
