funny in a sad way
« on: January 13, 2011, 11:36:46 AM »
checking some specifications in alldata today. they scan information directly from the manufacturers.

it would seem that mercedes thinks that engineers(or some other non-common sense having types) are working on their cars, as shown by the following warnings in the section concerning automatic transmissions.

DANGER:

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury suffered in the form of bruises or burns to the hands when reaching in while the engine cranks or runs
Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving off by itself.
Wear closed and close-fitting work clothes.
Do not grasp hot or rotating parts

i mean....really? do ya think it could be bad if ya grab that crank balancer while the engine's running?  or maybe it'd be a bad idea to put it in drive while you're under the hood?  :rofl :rofl

what is sad is that most warning labels are a direct result of someone already attempting what is clearly common sense. I would like to see the guy that took Preparation H orally.

This is the result of the litigious nature of American business.  The Risk Management Department (typically staffed by counsel) gets a chop on the product material before it hits the market.  As my old boss says, it results in better [products] but we'd be better off if we didn't have to have it...

I love these warnings, there's the "MAY CONTAIN NUTS" on the bag of cashews bought at Christmas.

These are hard to beat as well

Sounds like they have been sued by a few non-engineer guys with lots of common sense  ;)

Wisdom is realizing I will be an idiot in the future.
Common sense is trying to not be an idiot right now

ya know? stop trying to take the fun out of this!!!!!!!!!!   :neener:

seriously./......i have to admit that there are a LOT of mechanics that don't know a tenth of what they think they know, and would do something that stupid in the blink of an eye.
you'll normally find these guys working at the "chain" types of repair shops like pep boys.  :devil

Haha, don't worry, I have a cousin that can take an engine apart in minutes.  Only problem is that he has never been able to put one back together.  Not without having left over parts that is  :lol  He once asked me to go buy 5 spark plugs so he could do a tune up on my 6 cylinder car  :O

my best friends brother is one of those guys that can/will get a box. as he disassembles things to remove an engine from a car, he tosses everything in the box.
when he reassembles everything, he's never short anything, and never has left over parts. i tend to put things in a sort of order of removal, so i can remember where they go when i do this.

i also saw him swap a 351 in a neighbors pickup. out, in, and running in less than 4 hours.
