IBM Super Computer Takes on Jeopardy Champs
« on: January 13, 2011, 09:05:01 PM »
I heard about this a few months ago, but I guess today they tested it with a practice round, it's a super computer named Watson IBM built to go on Jeopardy and compete against Ken Jennings & Brad Rutter for $1 million.  Today was a practice round and the actual show will take place tomorrow, although it won't air until Feb 14-16th.  In the practice round it beat both of them earning $4400, Ken got $3400, & Brad earned only $1200.

IBM says that Watson is a significant step towards artificial intelligence and could have broad capabilities & uses in areas like medicine helping doctors sift through massive amounts of data & draw conclusions about patient care.  It sounds like an amazing step forward in computer technology and that much closer to real artificial intelligence.
