Happy w/your SOUND?
« on: July 30, 2000, 06:31:00 AM »
I need to upgrade from tinny oem speakers and a Diamond Monster 3d soundcard.

What would be a good performing combo?

Thanks,
Stephen "Gunthr" Guenther

Altec Lansing ADA885 THX (not the cheaper Altec Lansing) is one of the best systems you can get. It will blow your doors off with surround sound.

As for the sound card everyone has his personal choice. I would choose the SoundBlaster Live card.

Why you getting rid of the monster sound.

Ask 10 people which sound card is best. 5 will tell you SoundBlaster Live, the other 5 say Diamond Monster sound.

Hook that puppy to a stereo system with some good speakers.

Use MX300 sound here and happy with it.

Hey Rock

Yeah, its a good card. Its a M-80 though.

To tell ya the truth, I didn't take much time to research this. I ordered a decent set of speakers, so I figured I needed a late model sound card.

If the monster can give me good quad sound I might send the Live! card back. (don't need digital dolby, won't be using digital signal sources)

If the M-80 doesn't work as good as the Live! card, I'll use the monster for the computer I'm gonna build for my kids.

Why the Creative Labs card over Diamond?
I've always used Diamond, but this time I just wanted to try out the company that set the standard for the industry.

Also, when I was reading the reviews for the speakers (Klipsch), the test system used the Live! card.

So....since I was standing behind the door when God was passing out electronic apptitude, and having no time to actually learn what the heck I'm doing, I went with the Live! card as a safe choice... I didn't really do any comparison.

Klipsch Pro Media's are simple the best PC speakers you can buy. For 249 the not only give killer game sound but blow away an mini/shelf system out there are 3 to 4 times the cost. I've had mine for about 2 months and I'm still amazed every time I listen to them.
