Need PC/Monitor advice.
« on: August 01, 2000, 03:14:00 PM »
I am considering a Dell Dimension 4100 system that comes with 21" HP P1110 FD Trinitron monitor.

 P3/800, 256MB/133, GeForce2 GTS 32MB,
 30GB HD,
 SB Live! Value Digital
 $1828

The monitor $730 extra. Is it a good deal or am I better off buying a separate monitor elswhere?

miko--

Could you say anything bad about either one?

miko , I have almost the same set up , u will like the monitor , I do . I looked some at price but the shipping u have to figure too I think .

One of my team mates said that he couldn't tell the diff from 128ram and 256 so I have only 128 (he did say big difference with gelforce card). I used the diff in money to go for the 933 chip , 75fpm most times (31 or so in lots of smoke), thats max for monitor (have not tried differant drivers either , they 4.1201.0377). I got that vidio card u wrote but only 20 HD , I only play two games at a time , this and when I get pissed off , do some Falcon 4.0 .

I spent alot I guess , but no problems running AH at all   seems they know how to build pc's . This my second , wife has the first   .

Have fun with your new pc , hope u sleep better than I did waiting for it to come ,

cheers spro

 Thanks a lot, airspro.
I will definitely consider your advice. The memory can be added later, same as HD, if really needed.
What resolution are you running, also 32 bits or 16?

1024 by 768 32 bit .

I always ran 800 by 600 16 bit with my 333 , and was happy camper . Now 32 bit just blows my mind , there really is a big differance in how the game looks . Just wait till you see a Mustang up close the colors are just beatifull .  I wanted the bigger monitor cause you can see the angle of bandits wings sooner

I also bought the surround sound option (Harman/kardon HK-595 Surround Speakers with Subwoofer) , well don't know if it's that much better (old ears maybe ? lol), better for DVD movies I think but this game ? Really can't tell the differance from my Altec sound on old pc on AH .

I did buy the HD with the ATA (7200 rpm)think that helps too .

Took two weeks to make it and 3 days to ship   but worth the wait now

gl to you , spro

I'm not familiar with that particular monitor but it's worth checking out the competition and try and get the lowest 'dot pitch' monitor available for around the same price.  No harm in looking and the lower dot pitch will help with a clearer/sharper picture and will lessen eye strain.
