Got a car problem that could soon become an emergency

I just had my car delivered by the dealer, A 2003 hyundai coupe. He went through everything with me so I could check it was ok - including locking all the doors. 20 Minutes after he left, the drivers door wont lock. The passenger door locks with the key and internally just fine. The internal drivers lock pushes back and forth with no resistance. The outside lock unlocks, but wont turn to the right. There is no remote locking as standard and the drivers door controls the central locking (not the passenger side)

Basically my car is not locked and the alarm will not engage. There are 3 security locks fitted (wheel, pedals,handbrake/gearstick) so its unlikely to get stolen. But I'm still screwed.

The dealer will be at my house first thing in the morning but I'm searching for a way to at least lock the car to keep it secure.

Any advice?

What kind of neighborhood are you in?  Yeesh. If it's brand new you don't have anything in it right? Keep it that way, take the registration documents with you inside and leave the locks you have installed locked.

Or sit outside watching over it with a shotgun. I'd go with the former since your car is going to be just fine.

Call the dealer up and explain it to him, it sounds like the rod from the lock to the handle might have come off, that would explain no tension when you try to lock and unlock from the inside of the drivers door. as far as feeling safe if only the drivers side wont lock, park that side close to your home(or something else) to block the drivers door from being opened, then just exit through your passengers door and lock it up. Ive ran into this problem more than once and its usually the rod has become detached from the mechanism, dont let the dealer screw ya either, watch the repair if you can

sounds like one of the linkages inside the door is off. that is also possibly why the outside lock won't turn one way....the disconnected link rod is blocking it. most likely the one to the internal lock button as that has no resistance.

Yeah I just had a chat with a guy on another forum. The car is notorious for the drivers side actuator locking up. There are signs that it will shortly fail so the dealer is going to get some grief. The bar may have had nowhere to go due to the seizure so has come out from the switch.

just looked in alldata. the inner door handle is actually a cable. if the door lock actuator seized, you may have broken the cable, or possibly a plastic clip that the cable connects to. either way, best to let your mechanic handle it.

just discovered the passenger side should control the central locking but the jam is not locking the driver door or setting the alarm.
Yeah its a pain not having remote locking, can get it retrofitted though. Quick search costs that up at £150 to £200

Just park it in a well exposed and lit area, don't leave anything in it over night.  Sounds like this is something your dealer/mechanic should be able to fix for free and relatively quickly (definetley a bit quicker than it would take yourself to remove the door pannel, lol).

Yeah got a 6 month full warranty with it so I want it sorted quick
