New Case!
« on: January 20, 2011, 12:09:03 AM »
Only built one machine before, and I just got a new case for next to nothing. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811103026. If anyone can suggest what to put in it, running on a budget of 700-800 dollars

Well, my boss seems to hate me and might be getting the boot. So saving up all of my current paychecks for school... :o

Edit: Also, considering that these are the specs of my old comp (laptop)
Microprocessor           2.00 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P7350
Microprocessor Cache   3 MB L2 Cache
Memory                   4096 MB
Memory Max           8192MB
Video Graphics           NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS NB9M-GE
Video Memory            Up to 2047MB (256MB dedicated)
Hard Drive               320 GB (5400 rpm)

How much should I expect to have my mind blown?

You should see a huge difference between a 460GTX and some entry level laptop GPU. The CPU is also a lot more competitive then your old one. That being said you should be able to max all but shadows in AH2 I would imagine.

And how far with shadows? Also, would adding a second vc  later make it so I can do that?

I'm not positive really since I don't own a 460GTX myself and there a lot of other variables in play such as what resolution you'll be running a monitor, etc. Someone who owns one may be able to shed more light on the matter but if not that's half the fun of getting a new toy, trying it out. :D

P.S. Adding a second card should, but the best cost/performance route is to buy the best single PCB GPU you can. Either way I don't see you having any complaints considering the huge difference of a 9200M to a 460GTX.

you should max your settings with shadows at 4k+.  but if you are willing to get two vcs the get a 465 or higher, will save you money unless you are planing to have 3 monitors.

good question, hopefully one of the tech guys can help us.  ati cards can handle 3 or more, but nvidia only 2 per card.  then again if you get an ati card, then you have to get the right mobo. in other words, we need TD back :pray.

also just noticed the cpu I listed oc pretty good but some how intel limits it.  the "k" version costs about 40 bucks more and it oc a lot more.  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072

reading at the review on the sandy bridge it looks like oc the cpu changed, made it easier according to some.  but I havent really searched how.  I am upgrading my system and this is what i had in mind.

I have a MSI p45 platinum MB with dual pny gtx 470's running 3 23 inch monitors, I use a 850 watt supply and the cards are sli'd. I looked on the nvidea website and they say that I had to go triple sli but using the softh program I am using the triple version.

That mb you selected with the dual 465 vid cards should handle the triple screen no problem.

Wouldn't touch that Rosewill PSU with a 10ft poll. I'd suggest something from OCZ, Corsair, Seasonic,(if you can find em yet)PC Power & Cooling if it's not to late to switch your PSU choice.
